124 blower motor quit

almost without warning.... it made a rattling sound...like marbles..and then stopped.

the fuse didn't blow.... the strip fuse...

the compressor engages...just not blowing air.... don't think it has anything to do with the controller...

any thoughts?

this on the 260e with 209k

I've never touched a 260E but I'll assume it's the same as all the other 124's. The marble sound is usually from the plastic case breaking where the band strap holds the motor down. Somewhat common. It's pretty quick and easy to just uncover your blower motor, take it out and inspect it by hand and even jump it to check the operation. The other common problem is the voltage regulator, I can't remember off hand which color wires to ohm out but it's also fast and easy to check, should be able to do a search on here and find the specs for resistance.

well...it all might be a bit more complicated than that...... i should have added...but did not...

....that my aux fan was making a similar sound.. i have one on order and am having that delivered next week...

here is the kicker....the blower motor came on briefly while i ran an errand..then the marble sound came on again... so i think the marble sound was a result of the bad aux fan.... before i could pull over and listen... the blower motor went out again..

i will install the aux fan next week... and then probably pull the blower motor..
it would be easier to understand if the blower motor had blown the strip fuse... but that is in tact.

the controller on the dash does turn the compressor on, so that doesn't seem to be the culprit.

260e is the stripped down 124 version of the 300e.... same car.

senility kicking in

it is the aux fan....

i have the little issue with the blower motor that you need to turn the key slightly to the left...

when i was driving today... the noise of the aux fan coincided with my blower turning itself off..(the key wasn't quite enough to the left)

anyway, the aux fan is out.. i will await the arrival of the new one..

i'll keep this baby in the driveway for the next couple of days and drive the expedition.

i think the expy still has 2.00 a gallon gas in it... it is rarely driven.
