Can I fit a mobile phone to function as the factory supplied units in the S500 (2001 model GCC spec.). I did not order a phone in the car as I did not want the Mercedes supplied phone and wanted to use my own. Will the wiring harness be there or not, how easy/difficult is it to wire and fit.

My understanding is that you cannot use a phone other than the MB phone. Apparently there is software built into the phone that permits the interface with the car -- handsfree, etc. When you turn the phone on, it says "Mercedes Benz", so there's obviously something more there than a plain vanilla Motorola Timeport. I suppose you could get an aftermarket hands free kit for any brand phone, but you will lose the voice activation, display of directory, etc. Same is true by the way for BMW built-ins.

Thank you for the reply Alan guess I'll just have to do without it then. I will have a word with the service manager and see if there is a way around this. Thanks again.
