Is there any down side to replacing the timing chain tensioner without changing the chain? My 300TE 4m is making clicking noises after long shutdowns. I haven't chased it with the stethoscope yet, but it sounds like either a lifter pumping down or the tensioner. I have 214k miles and plan to do the head rebuild around 250k, so I am considering just replacing the tensioner now and running another 40k miles until the head pull and repalce the chain at that point.
I'm interested in any thoughts out there contrary to what I'm thinking. Thanks. |
