intermittent wipers stopped

On my 95 E320 wagon, the wipers work on normal and fast speeds but not on intermittent. Flash to pass is also not working although normal high beams work. Should I be looking at a replacement stalk switch or are these fuses / relays to check first?

Thanks!

Sounds like it's time for one of these:

I thought so...

I was afraid that would be the case. Does the steering wheel / airbag have to come off?

flash to pass is back!

A judicious spritz of non-volatile tuner/contact cleaner into the base of the stalk brought flash to pass back! Not so for the delay wipers though.

Does anyone know where the relay for the intermittent wipers is located?

Thanks!

IS there a relay somewhere for the intermittent wipers?

On a 1995 E320 wagon. If someone could point me to the wiper relay I would surely appreciate it.

Thanks,

Intermittent wipers are back

Drove home in the rain last night and must have left the wiper switch at the intermittent setting when I parked it. This morning when it started they were on and the delay function was working normally.

If anyone knows if / where the relay for the delay wipers is located, I'd sure like to clean the contacts and coat with dielectric grease.

Thanks,

It's in the relay box directly behond the fuse box.

Whenenever the intermittent wipers stop working, try cycling them to fast, then to off, and then back to intermittent, and they will work again. Mine used to do that on occasion, and that would correct the problem. (You can hear the relay clicking in the box if you listen carefully.)

If you can get them (it) to work when the switch is jiggled occasionally... you may be able to service the contacts in the switch... which, over the years, can become bent and corroded... preventing proper opperation.

The end of the switch can be pryed off (be careful to note the orientation and order of the componants- there are a few pieces of plastic, springs... in there)

When I did mine the small amount of corrosion had led to the contacts dragging and bending out of position just enough to cause failure.

Careful manipulation and a little trial and error, coupled with a cleaning and a coat of dielectric grease - got the switch to work properly again.

many thanks sounds like a good rainy night project

I appreciate the input from both of you. I am going to pull all of the relays out and polish the tabs followed by the dielectric grease. Then I'll have a try at the switch itself. Radio shacks contact cleaner got flash to pass working. If I can open even a crack to expose the switch I'll bet it works there too.
