MB shop/benzworld get togethers Nor Cal

Shadow Take note, you have been invited to the next Diesel Drive, by Zack, the main organizer of them.

These are wonderful trips, and meetings for the people from here and Benzword. Principally W140, W126, and W123 cars and principally diesel, but there are REAL fun and draw people from all over Calif, even Southern California.

Five have been put on so far, and I have been to two. East Bay, Marin County, San Mateo and near Pismo Beach if I recall.

So far I am the only 2 door gas Mercedes that came, but these are really wonderful. Single and married, families and children; are all welcome. It is good to see the Actual cars and meet the Actual people who have them

Northern CA Diesel Drive

Barrel of fun. I think the next one might be around Pismo again or on the Coast somewhere. Sometimes from 19-25 cars show up. Drivers are from about 10-70 years old. The majority of cars are about 70's-90s, and since they are mostly Mercedes Diesels, they are mostly scenic cruises and not races

You sound like you would enjoy it but now you got an invitation from the leader.

See post#10 - you got invited by Zack.

W126 Euro: Help with mounting license plates; there are no brackets!!

good night

Cars haven't always been the best
I'm truly not comfotrtable on LA high..well they call them freeways here
but I think my new friends might help me get out & see the world...

Thanks for thinking of me & for sharing in my new experience

Look at the neighborhood the car came from
This is the area where the good Dr lives.

So glad he is very charitable!

The Roadhouse movie car is some kind of 560SEC, that is lowered with some kind of after market wheels; it has been discussed to death om mbcoupes, and someone said the one at the end is different, probably a clapped out '83 380SEC. Probably the most prominently displayed one in any movie...

Enrique I don't think, works on Sundays, at all, so I would not try to call him until tomorrow. I know you miss your car and all, but he is probably with his family at home. Needs the day off...the car should be safe there..

The housecleaners will pump up the tire tomorrow on the SEC, I have an electric inflation device with alligator clips that will go on their new Toyota Tacoma. 39 lbs in it will be enough. I don't know whether to rechrome the wheels or get new ones. That do NOT require wheel locks! I am thinking about the ASA 8 or W140 brushed aluminum in 16". I hope that works. Then the aircon issue and sunroof.

If Enrique can't wire up your plates, or fix them, H -Town Benzo boy's link in #19 on the Diesel thread license plate thread, sounds like the best idea so far for you. For $12, if the holes fit, you could get the rear plate on at least. The US spec. FRONT plate holder for those cars is bent slightly, to fit, so the plate needs to be bent slightly, also. Not a big deal, even the plate frame gets bent a little bit but you can't even see it. If the screw holes don't bother you in the front ( they don't trouble me either), so much the better. Having the rear one displayed in the window of the car is asking for the LAPD to pull you over especially a night. Even if your intentions were good.

Best to go ahead and deal with that as soon as possible, Two more screw holes should be enough. Possibly for the short term, yo could use ONE screw and bolt the license plate to the car through one hole though it would look like crap, until you got a proper one. From Enrique, the junkyard, or the one H-Town mentioned

That and the wheel locks, if you can find out who sold those wheels new, coul suggest a lock/key solution . Probably the wheels are no longer in production which makes it harder.

I can't believe I wasted half a day waiting to hear from Enrique.
I honestly thought it was Monday.
I was wondering what was up?

I didn't realize it was Sunday
Yesterday went so slow
as I waited to hear if it would be ready
It seemed like 2 days to my internal clock for some reason.

I guess I really anxious & now feeling a bit stupid
but glad to have gained a day!!!

The SND is on a 07 Audi & a 05 Bentlley so they must be in production
Gosh are they some secret
hard to find anything on them

Good for you that the housekeeper come with inflation equipment.

I could go to pep boys
but I figured I;d ask Enrique
maybe he can at least suggest how to deal w the 2 open holes on top
& the 2 strange holes on bottom that have somethingin them but I don't know how attaching anything would hold in them...

My do I feel stupid
Guess I am really wantiing my car back
& to know how much it will cost...

I feel like I have gone back in time...

Looks like rain out in Tarzana
so glad the car is locked up safe & dry...

Enjoy the rest of your weekend

Hey, it's Monday in Australia

Thanks
I jotted it down

I did some body work myself on my TA in the mid 80's
came out pretty good for a first timer.
I sanded a few rusts spots down to bare metal\
acid etched it to take residue primed.painted & wet sanded
this was patch repair & it was barely visible
as it was on ends of fende and back under bumper.

also repaired 2 rust holes by drain with screening & liquid metal

Yep I wa under that car for a while
I enjoyed it
but it was hot work esp in summer & not that pleasant smelling
my poor nails...lol

I took this pic under the rear right side
there is additional "stuff"?
seems it is only on right
so maybe thats the anti slip?

My parrot knew it was Sunday
I was wondering why he was complaining all morning
Seems he looks foward to his Sunday omelet & was missing it.

This car is my birthday present a month early.
My Mom gave me some money for expenses & things.
I haven't even told her I bought a car yet
I'm waiting til I get the repair report & bill.

I am glad to hear from all the wonderful people who have helped me along
that my purchase was not a bad one.

This has weighed heavy on me
Day of missing sleep & nourishment
Now replaced by excitement
& the missing Sunday
OOOOh

I better go to bed early tonight...

Motor mounts aren't a job for a first timer, though it is to your credit that you have had a turn with a wrench and don't mind getting your hands greasy once in a while.

They may look redoubtable, but don't forget also, that the 380/420/500560SEC/SEL and the Diesels were also engineered to be mechanic friendly in the way no Cadillac or Buick ever was.

Do it yourselfers have reported that doing the brakes on a newer Cadillac can take all afternoon, but on a Mercedes it can be done quickly ane easily.

While some mechanics charge "book rate" to repair every car, it's my understanding that Enrique charges only how long it takes, which makes him a good mechanic.

It sounds like your parrot lives a helluva lot better than I do....

The "lisp" you correctly noticed in Marcos Llunas, voice correctly identifies him as Spanish; those people have that in their accent. The worst Spanish is spoken by people from Argentina.

This showcases an example of the Spanish "lisp" and other.....things

Thansk for the compliment
I sort of know my way around cars
Been around it since I was 8
watching & handing tools to my uncle
I don;t mind getting a bit dirty sometimes
All part of really getting into the car
Becoming one with it

Well tomorrow is Monday
again
so I wait all over

The car is in good hands

Enrique sourced the overheating to a sticking thermosdtat
& he;s doing the motor mounts

We'll see

Can't wait to get it back

Yep, my angel is a cockatiel
& he is loved & he loves me back
Sweetest bird you ever could imagine
had him since a baby
I'm his mother

Well, hopefully tomorrow you will have that pesky tire inflated & soon get that resolved

oooooh , I'm going into hyperdrive
Can't wait to drive the car again

I feel very blessed to have this car
Maybe someone up there likes me

smiles

Night
