Starts better hot/warm but not perfect Run Fine

Keyes called
Maganese came in
So I did want to take the benz out

Starts up same cold in a flash
1000rpm then increases & comes down
so its the same there
No Problem

Thinking I need to keep a full tank of gas
but didn't want to dilute the techron
I have half tank
so figured if I get another small bottle for 12 gals
I should be able to fill the tank & have a suitable concentration.

So went to Pep Boys this time got the small bottle for $8
Actually the corner Chevron was a decent price

Also picked up CRC throttle body & intake spray
thats ok for coated throttles
just in case I feel like doing that

Started up with a few second crank assisted with some pedal
On restart in park its about 750
then drops to 600 or lower in drive
but its steady quiet & strong.

I almost couldn;t tell it was running at one time
thought it stalled

Then we went over to Keyes got the paint & a bulb for the tail light
Got the first guy & he gave me a discount
so I saved $4

2nd restart I let go too fast didn't take & stalled
got it ok after that

Just have to get the feel for it
but it is much less cranking than it was
I can handle this so it has gotten better but is not cured or as good as the cold start.

Drove to Trader Joes for rations
3rd restart ok
same few second cranking & assist w pedal
but nothing like the crank city it was...

Drives smooth & responsive
May seem not aspowerful to me
but maybe I;m getting used to it

Decided to get brave on drive home even though idle was 600 or less

Turned on the AC as it was about 90 F today
Car ran about 90C today...same w AC
thats good!!!

AC blew ice cold amost immediately
Closed the windows
Yeah!

no more smog
Volvos AC needs a recharge

Idle did go lower w AC
probably real close to 500 if tack is accurate
thats a lil close
but it ran steady & was ok at ligfhts.

Might want to increase the idle a hair

Thats about it

So we had a nice outing...
Don't really know if I can honestly say it runs any better with the new plugs & wires
They may have been ok

Can new plugs wires or accululator lower idle?
Maybe the vac switch?
He said that was for timing

Have to add the tech tomorrow & fill it up
Good to have a full tank just in case
never know what could happen to gas supply

With cars that have electronic fuel injection like yours, it is not recommended to pump the gas pedal when you start them up. that is a hard concept to accept for those of us who grew up driving cars that had carburetors.

Sounds like it is running well. 750 rpm at idle is a lot better.

My personal opinion is that buying bottles of Techron is a waste of money, if the car is run with the proper fuel.

Just use Chevron Supreme fuel, it has Techron already in it, and cleans the injectors as you go. I used it for 70,000 miles on mine with no problems.
(Though I did replace the injectors when the timing chain was replaced, at approximately 100,000 miles - - - preventative maintenance.)

I'm running the concetrate as it sat for atleast 4 years with av of 50 miles per year so it might have some deposits from that.

Thats inpark 750
may be below 600 in drive
but it is running
the idle went down with the repairs
not sure what did that?

When cold it starts unassisted

I'll have to try to see how much I have to crank to get it to start wo pedal assist when hot or warm.

I have a earlier K jet or KEjet
not sure
but its sort of a mechanical electronic fuel injection.

The manual says if it doesn't start hot/warm to depress accelerator
so it must have been a issue w these cars.

My Volvo was my first electronic fuel injection
& it starts hot fine
Don't have to use pedal but its a 88 not 83

CS,
Glad it is starting better now. Sometimes you will find you do have to hit the accelerator a bit when starting...the car is not new and it does need a touch of fuel sometimes, most eventually do. Does sound like it is better. The new plugs and wires are what is smoothingout the idle and making it at one time seem like it had stalled. They are doing their job. Better idle and smoother running engine.
Jim is right about the techron. I still use it every so often, but after you run through this new bottle the engine and injectors should be nice and clean and you can probably swith to just the Chevron fule with the Tech in it. Then is you feel like it once every so often, buy a bottle. I usually do it every couple of oil changes. Cant hurt and cleaninjectors is the name of the game. Clean equals better spray pattern with equals better running engine and better gas milage.
With putting few miles on the car you could do it less but it really cant hurt much doing it more often. Just might not have anything to help. Still cost the same if you doit at a regualr interval.
I would say you can stop fussing with your idle and your engine situation for a time and focus on the wheel lock key. It could become much more important at anytime if you have a tire problem on the road.
Good luck.

If it just has an orifice in it then it would work either way, just not as engineered. And orifice is like this: (with out the dotted line)
____________
--------------\________________
____________/
It drops the airflow capacity. So backwards it would be working with less to start with and , of course, not expand after passing the orifice. Installed the other way, there is more flow to the orifice, then less...So in effect it will work either way, now if there is a one way flapper in there, then it won't hold the vacuum installed backwards. I don't know if it is intended to hold vacuum or not, or to just provide an orifice.

Well I did it. I bought a set of Beru ignition wires from Fastlane. They were just about $65.00 more than Bosch and I figure that I won't have to change them again for years.
They sould be here before the GTG at Enrique's on the 3rd.

Brissy said restrict vacuum so guess its a restrictor at idle & at full throttle
I just want it to make the engine perform its best
This could be part of my idle & hot start
so I really want to get it right

Does it flow into or out of the intake?
I don;t even know that....
I suspect intake has a draw inward
so its sharing the line w the distrib valve

oooh I don't know
just want to put it on right

Guess I could just switch it & see if it help the hot start.
The acumulator did make hot starts alot easier
but its still not perfect

Wires should last you 50,000 miles for me thats alifetime...
Beru is supposed to be the best
I opted to save the $60

oooh well...I wasn't sure what the difference was
& I was trying to stay w the bosch as the cap & rotor are bosch
so thought they mugt be engineered together
or I would hope.

Not sure what males the Beru different or better
maybe they are like theorigininals
The bosch are new weird technology deisgn

They seem to be working OK though

That green yellow valve wasn't even connected the first mo I had it until I took offthe air assembly & found it off

I still had the hard hot start
But them I guess it was fully open but not connected to the wur reg & dis vac.

Thats the way it was so thats how I reconnected it

This has to mean something to someone who understand the system.

someone had to put it on backwards at one point?

Still Enrique said its on right

Should be the 1000th post here pretty soon.

Hi everyone! Looks like my fabled trip to MR MB could happen

Hey the tire shop called!!! The painted aluminum rims for the car are in, and they will install today!!! Meanwhile I won the ebay auction this morning for the correct center caps for them and paypal'ed payment

I am off to get them installed. So, that means nothing should be in the way for me to be prevented from coming to MR MB next week. IF he can take my car for all day Friday to work on it, maybe I can come in on Thursday eve omething? It is possible JustinW. on Mercedesshop may caravan in with me from Sacramento on this.

If we can do this thing on Sat 11/3 and Enrique doesnt mind, then it looks like Justin, Charlie, Ernesto, Shadow, Jim, and maybe even Paul S. might actually make it. And I am thinking, Curtis ("Diametrical Benz") might show up, so I will tell him.

More later. Off to tire store.

BRB!!!

WAHOO!!!

Do you know which way air flows into or from a port in the front of the intake manifold?

If air goes in then the the orifice flow should be toward the intake
If the air flows out of the intake port then I guess the orifice should be pointing away???

Gosh darn this thing is bugging the heck out of me

I just want to help that poor car
got to watch out for it...

Great news Jim B. I know you have been agonizing over this wheel thing. I'm just going to keep the original Bundt(sounds like a cake) mag wheels that came with the car on it, but I need to find one that isn't bent (my Spare is bent per PO, Yep it was ordered with a Mag Wheel for a spare. I have the original sales sticker that was in the window.)

New Tires would be NICE. Mine are Flat Spotted but will have to do for now, I may be able to "Re-Program" them by a long road trip.(not likely I know, but I'm an optimist.)
I just can't see throwing away perfectly good tires because they are flat spotted. These are so little used that the mould splash between the tread patterns are not even blown or worn off.

Keep me informed if the GTG at Enrique's is going to be a go. I thnk I'll have my car detailed on Thursday.

I guess I'll be paying Enrique another visit
I didn't mention to him but I wrote it on my listof things
maybe too detailed

but I thought his guys would push the vac hose on the back of the WUR on all the way

I got it barely on and didn't want to horse too much as the rubber hose hits the rubber vac hoses of the good thermal vacumn switch

Well its still barely on & I really don't like that....

Took a run with it
Corner Chevron had a gas tanker there & a few pumps apart

I don't get gas when they fill the tanks
too much chance of getting a gas particle

So I missed with cool window & will wait til tomorrow to fill it up

I;m really a bit murffed at his guys

I feel like if I want things perfect I have to stand there.

They did ok with the ignition wires

I would have paid for the hose the wires go in
It keeps them contained & clean
but no they just have wires tied with a black tie

It bothers me

but I guess I';m glad he did it with my wires

Still

I had bought a accordian type that would thread on from the side
I returned it figuring I;d pay ERnrique for the correct one
Seems I'll haver to go get it and install it myself

They left my old wire spreader on the lleft
it was good so I guess that ok as its por original
seems they repaired the one on theother valve cover
but I left them 2 new ones to use...

Other than that the valve looks good
& its red
OOoh I was worried

Gosh the air is bad
or the air & the exhaust is bad

Guess the thing I really want done corrected is to have that rear vac hose connected more than a fraction of an inch...

Sorry to complain but I'm a surgeonal perfectionist when I do things
Things have to be done to the best of my ability.

What should I do
the almost entire port of rear WUR is not covered with the hose??????

I could have done it
but it would mean taking off the vac hose on the other plastic vac switch
& thats chancing breaking that one.
I didn't have enough reach & strength to get that on all the way..

I did the best I could
stopped before there was more damage

Now the ignition wires are in the way again
I don;t want to keep taking them off the dist cap

He;ll have to have his guys push that vac hose on better

Just an oversight I"m sure
So don;t hang me but
This is just bothering me!

GTG a go 11/03 at Enrique's!!!

EVERYONE!!!

It is definately a go for 11/03 at Enrique's. I just got off the phone with him.

I explained I am coming down from about 600 miles away, and could NOT be there till Friday in the afternoon, as it could take 6-7 hours from Sacramento to get there.

Enrique said it is oK if 6-7 people meet in his parking lot for a mini gtg on Saturday, but he only works there on Saturdays till 1:00 pm.
I don't know how early he opens.

What we would need is an official head count, and a time to gather there.

As I recall from the MR MB thread, the plaque presentation there took place at about 8:00 am. Is that too early? What about 9:00 as a 2nd choice?
I don't care - as I will try to be nearby at a hotel some place.

EVERYONE ANSWER HERE. Also, does anyone know, is there a place nearby we could have breakfast or should we get some Starbucks Coffee and doughnuts or pastries and have them here.

I do not think Enrique understands that he has the legion of fans from the Internet that he does. This would really surprise him.

Minor problem in my road: The tire shop showed me the wheels, they look all right, but ONE WAS BENT. UPS damaged the lip in shipment.......grrrr

Wheel installation set back to Monday. A 4th one will be sent out, evidently.
They inspect the wheels before mounting. I saw the bent one. It was a mess.

Justin - I will call you in hour or two. Got your PM. But the wheels are still on the car, till Monday at least. Sorry.

So you spoke to Enrique?
He's really a gentleman
Nice person
Cream of the crop

I do love him
hard not to admire a good man!

You come down the 101
get off Reseda
Enrique is a few blocks
Couldn't tell you exactly
as I use surface streets
never had the benz on a highway yet
Bet she'd love it
but she has to be ready
More like I have to be ready for her...

If he says its ok
then its ok
He parked my car way in the back one time
There is another shop back there
guess the share the lot
.
Guess my car is ok
but would like that darn wur hose pushed on the darn wur port
Can't stay like that forever
its not right
She deserves better
Poor girl....

Feeling better now that I ate
& Enrique has been a godsend
I truly am grateful for all his help
& his reasonable prices
but its frustrating when stupid simple things get overlooked...

Too bad about your wheels

Don't start me on the brown truck

I hate all independent delivery carriers
All they do is ring my bell all day

Like I am a doorman too for this measly $10 a day I get paid!

Still I have spare time
I got a benz
I have my health
so far
No fires
Life is not easy
but there is always tomorrow

Look foward to meeeting everyone

Night

Wow
We hit the big 1000

Do we get a hi post MB Badge

Further late up date on gtg 11/03: MB classic center anyone?

Late add: Curtis ("Diametrical Benz") will be joining us for sure at the MR MB gtg Saturday morning. Starts at 10:00am.

Justin and I will caravan down late late Thursday night from Northern California; Jim will drop off car Friday morning bright and early for Enrique to check it out.

Rest of day open Friday. Jim and maybe Justin, too open for lunch with anyone or a visit; Jim may rent car (if necessary) and should have cell phone in possession by then.

Curtis, Diametrical and I will hope to squeeze in a visit to the Mercedes Benz classic center in Orange County,
while we are there, perhaps after the gtg or the day before, on Friday.

More to come!!!
