I wonder why the temp gauge is hidden. Good catch, but then, he could have snapped the photo when the engine was ice cold to conceal overheating issue showing up on the heat gauge.

I am hoping that Enrique will be able to fit my car in at the end of next week.
If so, and if the new wheels are on the car, I will point it south - Maybe on Tursday night?

Yah, I will check the oil before I set out.

feet, spits on ground>
The car always idled around 1000
Was that way when I saw it
I watched the gauages the first time I saw it
went up to 80
pressure was 3
idle was 1000

It did lower in drive
I just ran it foward & backward a few times inhis driveway

I also remember the idle went down when we tested the AC

Car came like that

That pic was taken around same miles when I saw it so pic was very recent.

Seems thats the way an airslide works & might just have to live w hi park idle
no biggie.

Seems everyone can make it so you'll have to get those new wheels on & check your fluids...plural...& call Enrique.

I noticed a black patch of dust on the drivers side front wheel
just in a small section
Wonder what was up with that?
should I be concerned?

I'd like to smooth out the rough edges
get it up to speed
be nice not to smell heavy exhaust
but got it in Volvo too
guess they are old.

I;d like to fix the Mecedes though
within my tiny bidget but lil things I can do I'd like to do

Pauls in
Is there a cuban restaurant next door?
There are a few there I really didn't notice ehat they were

How exciting for your car to get to meet Enrique

Your's is on back to front.
White side faces the intake manifold.
.
So its not restricting idle
then maybe thats why idle is hi?

Would it being backwards also screw up driving idle & perhaps even hot start?

Why dd my mechanic say its on right?

So its supposed to restrict how is it actuated?
how does it determine idle or full throttle?
Its an open intake port

I guess I don't really understand how its supposed to work to be able to figure out which way the air should flow.

So would you want the air flow on that valve to flow away from the intake or to it?

I have to takeoff the air assembly to check it
thats why I wanted the mechanic to do it as he had the assembly off

He told me it was right

If its still backwards
maybe thats why when its hot its hard to start as idle is restricted?

Got to get this straight!
Darn....

Anything else that can get this idle in check?
still wondering why it went down with the plugs & wires
& vac valve & acumulator?

How can you tell the 500 sec you're working on is an AMG?
Wonder why it too has has the air slide valve?

If it just has an orifice in it then it would work either way, just not as engineered. And orifice is like this: (with out the dotted line)
____________
--------------\________________
____________/
It drops the airflow capacity. So backwards it would be working with less to start with and , of course, not expand after passing the orifice. Installed the other way, there is more flow to the orifice, then less...So in effect it will work either way, now if there is a one way flapper in there, then it won't hold the vacuum installed backwards. I don't know if it is intended to hold vacuum or not, or to just provide an orifice.

Well I did it. I bought a set of Beru ignition wires from Fastlane. They were just about $65.00 more than Bosch and I figure that I won't have to change them again for years.
They sould be here before the GTG at Enrique's on the 3rd.

Brissy said restrict vacuum so guess its a restrictor at idle & at full throttle
I just want it to make the engine perform its best
This could be part of my idle & hot start
so I really want to get it right

Does it flow into or out of the intake?
I don;t even know that....
I suspect intake has a draw inward
so its sharing the line w the distrib valve

oooh I don't know
just want to put it on right

Guess I could just switch it & see if it help the hot start.
The acumulator did make hot starts alot easier
but its still not perfect

Wires should last you 50,000 miles for me thats alifetime...
Beru is supposed to be the best
I opted to save the $60

oooh well...I wasn't sure what the difference was
& I was trying to stay w the bosch as the cap & rotor are bosch
so thought they mugt be engineered together
or I would hope.

Not sure what males the Beru different or better
maybe they are like theorigininals
The bosch are new weird technology deisgn

They seem to be working OK though

That green yellow valve wasn't even connected the first mo I had it until I took offthe air assembly & found it off

I still had the hard hot start
But them I guess it was fully open but not connected to the wur reg & dis vac.

Thats the way it was so thats how I reconnected it

This has to mean something to someone who understand the system.

someone had to put it on backwards at one point?

Still Enrique said its on right

Should be the 1000th post here pretty soon.

Hi everyone! Looks like my fabled trip to MR MB could happen

Hey the tire shop called!!! The painted aluminum rims for the car are in, and they will install today!!! Meanwhile I won the ebay auction this morning for the correct center caps for them and paypal'ed payment

I am off to get them installed. So, that means nothing should be in the way for me to be prevented from coming to MR MB next week. IF he can take my car for all day Friday to work on it, maybe I can come in on Thursday eve omething? It is possible JustinW. on Mercedesshop may caravan in with me from Sacramento on this.

If we can do this thing on Sat 11/3 and Enrique doesnt mind, then it looks like Justin, Charlie, Ernesto, Shadow, Jim, and maybe even Paul S. might actually make it. And I am thinking, Curtis ("Diametrical Benz") might show up, so I will tell him.

More later. Off to tire store.

BRB!!!

WAHOO!!!

Great news Jim B. I know you have been agonizing over this wheel thing. I'm just going to keep the original Bundt(sounds like a cake) mag wheels that came with the car on it, but I need to find one that isn't bent (my Spare is bent per PO, Yep it was ordered with a Mag Wheel for a spare. I have the original sales sticker that was in the window.)

New Tires would be NICE. Mine are Flat Spotted but will have to do for now, I may be able to "Re-Program" them by a long road trip.(not likely I know, but I'm an optimist.)
I just can't see throwing away perfectly good tires because they are flat spotted. These are so little used that the mould splash between the tread patterns are not even blown or worn off.

Keep me informed if the GTG at Enrique's is going to be a go. I thnk I'll have my car detailed on Thursday.

I guess I'll be paying Enrique another visit
I didn't mention to him but I wrote it on my listof things
maybe too detailed

but I thought his guys would push the vac hose on the back of the WUR on all the way

I got it barely on and didn't want to horse too much as the rubber hose hits the rubber vac hoses of the good thermal vacumn switch

Well its still barely on & I really don't like that....

Took a run with it
Corner Chevron had a gas tanker there & a few pumps apart

I don't get gas when they fill the tanks
too much chance of getting a gas particle

So I missed with cool window & will wait til tomorrow to fill it up

I;m really a bit murffed at his guys

I feel like if I want things perfect I have to stand there.

They did ok with the ignition wires

I would have paid for the hose the wires go in
It keeps them contained & clean
but no they just have wires tied with a black tie

It bothers me

but I guess I';m glad he did it with my wires

Still

I had bought a accordian type that would thread on from the side
I returned it figuring I;d pay ERnrique for the correct one
Seems I'll haver to go get it and install it myself

They left my old wire spreader on the lleft
it was good so I guess that ok as its por original
seems they repaired the one on theother valve cover
but I left them 2 new ones to use...

Other than that the valve looks good
& its red
OOoh I was worried

Gosh the air is bad
or the air & the exhaust is bad

Guess the thing I really want done corrected is to have that rear vac hose connected more than a fraction of an inch...

Sorry to complain but I'm a surgeonal perfectionist when I do things
Things have to be done to the best of my ability.

What should I do
the almost entire port of rear WUR is not covered with the hose??????

I could have done it
but it would mean taking off the vac hose on the other plastic vac switch
& thats chancing breaking that one.
I didn't have enough reach & strength to get that on all the way..

I did the best I could
stopped before there was more damage

Now the ignition wires are in the way again
I don;t want to keep taking them off the dist cap

He;ll have to have his guys push that vac hose on better

Just an oversight I"m sure
So don;t hang me but
This is just bothering me!

GTG a go 11/03 at Enrique's!!!

EVERYONE!!!

It is definately a go for 11/03 at Enrique's. I just got off the phone with him.

I explained I am coming down from about 600 miles away, and could NOT be there till Friday in the afternoon, as it could take 6-7 hours from Sacramento to get there.

Enrique said it is oK if 6-7 people meet in his parking lot for a mini gtg on Saturday, but he only works there on Saturdays till 1:00 pm.
I don't know how early he opens.

What we would need is an official head count, and a time to gather there.

As I recall from the MR MB thread, the plaque presentation there took place at about 8:00 am. Is that too early? What about 9:00 as a 2nd choice?
I don't care - as I will try to be nearby at a hotel some place.

EVERYONE ANSWER HERE. Also, does anyone know, is there a place nearby we could have breakfast or should we get some Starbucks Coffee and doughnuts or pastries and have them here.

I do not think Enrique understands that he has the legion of fans from the Internet that he does. This would really surprise him.

Minor problem in my road: The tire shop showed me the wheels, they look all right, but ONE WAS BENT. UPS damaged the lip in shipment.......grrrr

Wheel installation set back to Monday. A 4th one will be sent out, evidently.
They inspect the wheels before mounting. I saw the bent one. It was a mess.

Justin - I will call you in hour or two. Got your PM. But the wheels are still on the car, till Monday at least. Sorry.

From what I read Enrique gets to the shop about 8:00 Am on Sat.

Sign me up. I hear there is a deli across the street from the shop, but I don't know for sure.

Bummer about the bent wheel. But you should be rolling by next Friday.

I got a surprise this morning. Verizon texted me that they had given me a $29.00 Credit on my prepay card account because of the So.CA fires. I wonder if they did this by my ZIP Code or phone numbers or What. Kinda nice that they gave it to prepay customers as well as others plan customers in the fire areas too. They, for sure, have me as a customer for a while! I don't know what it cost them(credits are income that might or might not come in), but it sure makes a good impression on their customers!

Now I know why Fastlane is called Fastlane. I ordered parts at 12:30 P.M. today and by 3 they had the order filled and I got a heads up on the tracking. Where are they located? WOW!

Charlie -

Good that you can make it!!! What is your best idea of a time you would like to met at Enrique's shop? You would be coming from quite a distance.

Paul S. has suggested 10:00 am, maybe 8am is too early? Paul says 10:00am says that is a good time, we coudl BS for asn hour, then go across the street for some food or something. I would like to have a chance o look at your car, and speak to you.

Took you advice and bought the Elmer's glue ("Ultimate" version) they were out of gorilla glue and hoped to use that along with the C clip you told me to buy. then I checked again and see you mentioned TWO of them. Is there some way to remove the ashtry - the whole thing - the slider unit - out of there? (The actual silver ashtray itself just pops right out; I am interested in figuring out to glue the wood on the front of the slider. Or could I glue the wood on there and clamp it somehow so it wouold dry overnight with the ashtray not removed from the car? Any ideas about that?

Thanks! I bet your car will look gorgeous. Mine does not look that good as it DID tilll it sat outside up here for 2 years. Some clearcoat on the roof has peeled near the middle. Looks bad. Car runs good though.

Thanks

!0:00 A.M. is fine with me, I'm about 50 miles away.
The ashtray holder is held in with two phillips head screws. You have to pull the unit as far out as you can and then you will see two screws in the bottom most piece, one is near the lighter assy and the other is on the other end spaced the same. Take the screws out carefully as if you drop them into the console you will be upset(been there, done that. Found them!)
However, I did that glue job before I took the ash tray assy out of the console. Yopur way is easier though that I have taken the assy out. hadn't done that the first day I owned the car.

Car will look as good as it can with 24 year old paint and leather. But She cleans up well.

Guess I should not have doubted the Benzmaster

The shadow
has mixed feelings

8 is too early for me
I now have a hose on my WUR thats not on well.

So here we go again

He should be able to fix this

I have the car apart again

Another 3 hours down the drain

I want his guys to put that vac hose on right.

It took much longer to get that green yellow thingy off
I almost gave uo on it

Its in there tight
& I don't have the reach to get in there

but after a hour or so
I wiggle it out.

Sorry, maybe I should have trusted him
but frankly thats how I got stranded w a dead battery

So I'm blowing in the darn thing
It seems hard both ways
can't find an arrow
Maybe its not working

I hooked it up the other way & ran the car
so hard to tell what it did
but car felt more lumpy
still I had the air assembly off

I shouldn't have to be doing this
This is why I went to him

Now I have to spend Sat AM getting it back together
when I figure out if it was on right
or maybe its broken

MB isn't open
Enrique is

Maybe I should just go rather than spend the weekend dealing w a low idle

I just want these lil things done
Is that too much to ask????

Sorry
I didn't have lunch
Came home & played around with this.

Going back there loses me a half day at least by time I wait...

I like him
but sometimes his guys goof!

Maybe not the green yellow thing
Guess I should not have doubted the Benzmaster

but I can't get over that they would hook up the vac lines back there & not notice that one was a half inch off the WUR port!
