if the orifice is on with the white part towards the mainfold then it's OK,but i think in your first pics it was on reversed.
Once you have that sorted get the fuel filter changed ,you have new leads etc and with the ignition timing checked and adjusted accordingly you should be ready to roll.
There's other little jobs which can be done to ensure these caers run better. i always make sure that full throttle is attained. So many of these cars are driving around on half throttle.
To adjust your mixture,to make it leaner...
The idle mixture is adjusted with the Aircleaner in place.
A 3mm allen key is inserted in the hole in the center of the air cleaner. It's pushed down until the mixture adjustment screw is located and turned anticlockwise to lean it out or vice-versa,
it's not a job for ther home handy person unless they have a CO meter to measure emmisons.

Be cause your car has spent some time not being used, the valves etc are not going to be sealing 100% .
And,as I come across a lot mercedes in this situation I use a remedy that is reccomended by Mercedes.
this is it..
For every 100 liters of fuel ,add 1 liter of automatic transmission fluid it doesn't matter what brand or grade because it all serves the same purpose and it works great!.
Your tank holds approx 90 liters so pour in 900mls next time you need to fill from empty.

No, its always been white/yellow toward intake

I did a temp reversal on it & ran it w air assemb off
& I didn't like it
it was lumpy on idle
it also was starting to gasp for air
engine didn't do well so I shut it down

Good to know the mechanic was right!!!
Sorry I doubted him
I just wanted to be sure

I shouldn;t try to 2nd guess things I don't know
but I know my vac hoses
I changed most of them & now I will have that last one old
but guess thats a egr one...
they looked intact
maybe they didn't want to chance breaking the ports off in the hose either

OOOH welll
Can close that one...

but thanks for all the info

tranny auto
these days there are so many
dex 3?

Will have to look into that\
but if its Merc recommended
Heck why not

Its a ratio 1 percent
so its constant doesn't matter units
would be 24 gal tank would be..hmmm have to figure it or convert

I have no CO meter

Seems I;m biting off a crumb of a huge sandwich
& maybe after weeks I might be able to get everything attended to
I want too
especially if its not that expensive

How can I ask for him for a fuel filter now?
Arrgh
But I still want that hose put on better so I must go back

My guys guys left the old vac hoses on that last vac thermal switch
they would have all been new

Guess its just a judgement call
I wrote on my list to please change any old bad hoses
guess they weren't too bad

Just bugs me
Maybe I'm being too picky...

I had the parts
I would have paid them for the hoses
I'm still a bit miffed at that
why not change 25 year old hoses when your back there
Won't be back there again for 25 years

Still I bow to Enrique & ask for his foregiveness
but his guys sometimes!!!!

Enrique is still the BENZMASTER

Just buy a cheap bottle of transfluid ( 1 liter, even in California it should marked in liters ) When you go to fill up again, pour the whole bottle in then fill the tank.
BUT, get the fuel filter changed first. It should be done very 12 months anyway.
Now get Driving!!

OOoh gosh
I better stop
I think I;m having brain meltdown
Maybe its the air & exhaust today

Wanted to fillup today
but they were filling the tanks
& half the pumps were being repaired
Just decided it wasn't a good time
So I'd like to do this tomorrow

Wonder if I have any?
I had some old fluids
I thru out some as they were prob 10 years old
but for adding to gas it would have been ok

I might put off the fuel filter
esp if I:m running tranny fluid in the gas

Anyway I prob can get my mechanic to quickly tighten the WUR rear hose
but as for the other things have to choose times wisely.

I'm so sorry
100 liters is about 25 gals
thats the tank
A liter is close to a qt

Oooh maybe I better go make my dinner

I think I'm loosing my mind here...

I want to go down at 11PM & put that car back together

Nothing else I can do
WUR hose is too close to those old ones on the old TVV

With these fires though none real close
I like to think I can get in the car & get us all to safety

Thanks so much
Your doing a great job with that 500 SEC AMG
Thanks for taking the time to share the info w me

The euro is a bit daunting

Can't I put it in a half tank & fill it up?
Will it mix OK
should be same concentration

I also have a fuel system cleaner in the gas
Techron

I don't like to run the tank low
esp now w the fires

Is adding tranny fluid like adding MArve l Mystery oil?

I used to use it in the old days
well gave the cars a dose one in a blue moon

Just want to be sure before I add anything to the gas

Where can we verify thats its Merceded recommended

Just don't want to foul anything.
Guess I've made enough mistakes

I explained I am coming down from about 600 miles away, and could NOT be there till Friday in the afternoon, as it could take 6-7 hours from Sacramento to get there.

Enrique said it is oK if 6-7 people meet in his parking lot for a mini gtg on Saturday, but he only works there on Saturdays till 1:00 pm.
I don't know how early he opens.

What we would need is an official head count, and a time to gather there.

As I recall from the MR MB thread, the plaque presentation there took place at about 8:00 am. Is that too early? What about 9:00 as a 2nd choice?
I don't care - as I will try to be nearby at a hotel some place.

EVERYONE ANSWER HERE. Also, does anyone know, is there a place nearby we could have breakfast or should we get some Starbucks Coffee and doughnuts or pastries and have them here.

I do not think Enrique understands that he has the legion of fans from the Internet that he does. This would really surprise him.

Minor problem in my road: The tire shop showed me the wheels, they look all right, but ONE WAS BENT. UPS damaged the lip in shipment.......grrrr

Wheel installation set back to Monday. A 4th one will be sent out, evidently.
They inspect the wheels before mounting. I saw the bent one. It was a mess.

Justin - I will call you in hour or two. Got your PM. But the wheels are still on the car, till Monday at least. Sorry.
So you spoke to Enrique?
He's really a gentleman
Nice person
Cream of the crop

I do love him
hard not to admire a good man!

You come down the 101
get off Reseda
Enrique is a few blocks
Couldn't tell you exactly
as I use surface streets
never had the benz on a highway yet
Bet she'd love it
but she has to be ready
More like I have to be ready for her...

If he says its ok
then its ok
He parked my car way in the back one time
There is another shop back there
guess the share the lot
.
Guess my car is ok
but would like that darn wur hose pushed on the darn wur port
Can't stay like that forever
its not right
She deserves better
Poor girl....

Feeling better now that I ate
& Enrique has been a godsend
I truly am grateful for all his help
& his reasonable prices
but its frustrating when stupid simple things get overlooked...

Too bad about your wheels

Don't start me on the brown truck

I hate all independent delivery carriers
All they do is ring my bell all day

Like I am a doorman too for this measly $10 a day I get paid!

Still I have spare time
I got a benz
I have my health
so far
No fires
Life is not easy
but there is always tomorrow

Look foward to meeeting everyone

Night

Wow
We hit the big 1000

Do we get a hi post MB Badge

Further late up date on gtg 11/03: MB classic center anyone?

Late add: Curtis ("Diametrical Benz") will be joining us for sure at the MR MB gtg Saturday morning. Starts at 10:00am.

Justin and I will caravan down late late Thursday night from Northern California; Jim will drop off car Friday morning bright and early for Enrique to check it out.

Rest of day open Friday. Jim and maybe Justin, too open for lunch with anyone or a visit; Jim may rent car (if necessary) and should have cell phone in possession by then.

Curtis, Diametrical and I will hope to squeeze in a visit to the Mercedes Benz classic center in Orange County,
while we are there, perhaps after the gtg or the day before, on Friday.

More to come!!!

Great
Look foward to meeting everyone
Don't mind me
I guess I get overwhelmed
but I have faith inmyself to figure it out
Hard for me to trust others
I try to be so self sufficient
just my nature I guess
So forgive me my flaws

I don't eat put much
but I do know some great reasonable places
If anyone likes Thai
I know the best!

This is exciting!

There is a portuguese bakery some place close by
maybe we can get some rolls etc coffee

Hey, I might like to tag along
but I;d watch where you go as its still smoky & there are fires
in OC & So Cal...

None in my area as well as Enriques
We are about 10 miles from each other.

I guess now that I know the orifice is in right
I can adjust the idle
It does seem to be running less peppy than it was
don';t know why
but idle is a but lower esp when it get hot

Hope it likes the new plugs & wires

Tried my best on them
Asked Enrique if thet were Ok
Consensus was they should work

Guess they smooth idle a bit

I'm just trying to drive it now
just let it stretch & exercize its valves
poor girl has been sitting for many years
I guess I should be happy she runs as well as she does

I have been jimping around and on phone, private messages, emails trying to set this stuff up.

Have not been ignoring the Shadow, you are welcome to join us if we go to the MB Classic Center or Petersen museum. Makes sense to take as few cars as possible. Justin and I could possibly do a lunch or dinner or both on Friday and maybe dinner with people on Saturday too.

This thread has become a free for all, lots of stuff going on.

Good point about the fires in Orange County, Shadow, but looks like they ought to all be out in a week.

High mileage badge for your thread LOL!

I will need time to get caught up on this thread, I think a lot has been discussed about the famous Manganese Euro SEC, I missed all of it.

One more fellow we might want to include is Buzz, the really cool guy from Ontario, the airline pilot with the two mint black diesels, the W201 and the 1991 350SDL. Maybe he is around and might want to meet us at Enriques's.

He came to our NorCal Diesel Drives twice, from Ontario, so maybe he could come to this.
'
G'night.

OK, Shadow, I have justg sent a PM to Buzz, the airline pilot, from Ontario, and invited him to come out. If we are lucky he might. is cars are black and MINT. He would be the 8th person if he comes. Oh man I am tired.
Lot of scrambling today. BUT got a lot done too. We will wait for him.

Real great guy too.

Now I scanned your posts a little bit you can help us choose which day you would rather come to the Mercedes Classic center, it is the incredible new factory place that restores all the old Mercedes up to about 1981 or so. I think

If you are busiy with tenants and apts etc, which works better for you, Friday or Saturday do you think? UP to you, I thin 3-4 of us could just go there in one car maybe you, Justin, me and Curtis. Any more would come in a separate car.

No answer needed right away, you can think about this. Maybe even try a dinner on Sat nite, some of us (maybe?) I dont know what anyone else is doing, pretty sure Justin and me, are opened. You said some Thai place. you knew was food. I love that, ate it all the time in SF, but only one place here and I never went yet. I miss that.

I understand about your responsibility and Angel and everything, it is hard to get away, but we understand all that.

Let's see what happens. All I need is ONE more unbent wheel, and the Tire Shop will get me on the road.

I have no air con right now, or heater, but I will drive to LA with Justin in the caravan 8-1 am Thurs so wont need them I hope. Maybe Enrique can fix everything. I hope so.

YOU have control of some of our agenda, you need to be included also in our celebation.

Please join in.

My poor Angel
I love him
He loves me
He is like no other bird you could imagine

He got his dinner late tonight
but he is forgiving
as I am of him
sometimes he drives me mad
but he is just a bird
butis he?

One of gods creatures
Today there was a smart fly
I gave him an option to leave or die
& he choose life
so I set him free

Angel hates flies
though I hate to kill
I must protect my baby
this fly was smart
he lived.////

Ha ha, I like Thai,,,mmmmm Satay, beef and chicken, lemon chicken salad, Thai Iced Coffee, lemongrass soup, it is all good, I havent had any for years.'

Just say where. The big cities like LA,SF, NY, Miami, etc have the BEST.

Fit for a king or the driver of an SEC at least. haha

Just pick. The more of us who can go the better

This is Jims vacation!!! and the treat for the SEC is Enriques hands on it, work the magic I hope.

The wheels are kind of boring compared to the chrome, but they would be new, and in the 1991-1999 cars, so they are newer and stylish. Got to get used to them

I don't like flies in any way shape or form. But cockatiels are sooooo cute.
Buta big responsibility. They bond with their human I guess.

I cannot believe I get to go back to Los Angeles. It is an exciting place. I havent been there for around 6 years I guess. Cant remember:was there in 2001 I think, and had the car serviced at Calstar Mercedes in Glendale.

Maybe that was the last time. I usualy did something "Mercedes" when I was there. 96-00 went there a number of times.

A long drive from San Francisco though. No less than 7 hours, even if you hurried. It was fun though, but I- 5 is a boring bowling alley. Cant go too fast because of the trucks.

I am glad I can go next weekend, sometimes I hate this place, it gets boring, even though the people are sweet. I spent too long in San Francisco, am used to that I guess after 25 years there.

Anyway Los Angeles is nice. Maybe I will have time to look in that car bookstore on Magnolia in Burbank. BENZ_LGB went there in Beowulf and saw Jay Leno in there.

LA, the cars. The stars. The boulevards. OOOOH I can't wait, here I come!!
Well in a few more days actually

Late edit: Angel sooooooo cute. Lucky you!!!
