I read that the C36 used the SL 600 brakes. Can I order SL 600 brakes and mount it on my C220 since its share the same chassis as the C36, or were there some mods done by AMG to get them to fit? I will be ordering a turbo kit for my little C220 and would like to beef up the brakes inexpensively, would this save me $$$ compared to getting Brembos? Thank you.

Why not just go ahead and get a C32 AMG this fall and have the real thing, with a factory warranty?

I believe the C220 and the C36 use different hubs as as control arms. Hence, just bolting on SL600 calipers won't happen easily.

You may want to try using sticker and wide tires first, as well as more aggressive pads. Also, unless you have 17-inch wheels, I doubt your stock wheels will clear the rotors and calipers of the SL600.

I have 18"x8" OZ wheels so clearing the brakes is no problem. Also have Yokahama Paradas so they are sticky. The kit I am ordering only booosts my car from 150hp to 205hp so do you think I'll even need beefier brakes or just better pads. I mount 15" steel wheels w/ snow tires during winter so knowing I could stay w/ my stock calipers and rotors would be nice. Also, are the brakes of the C220 and C280 the same? Because if so, the C280 has around the same power as my C220 will when boosted so that will be a good sign that things should be fine. Thank you.

$4,400 for the turbo!? DAMN! I know, I was checking out that mosselman sight about a week ago... a bi-turbo does sound damn appealing.. but I'd better start applying for a few more credit cards if I'd want to pull that off! Not worth it for the time being... I'm still in college and barely make enough money every month to support my needs! My mom is great though, she pays for more than she should... I'm still in college... only 19 y/o.

I had a 95 C36 so I can tell you a bit. First, the rotors and calipers on the front are from the 600sl. The rear rotors and calipers are from the e420. You need at least 17" wheels to clear the calipers, but the offset on the C class is not the same as the SL (which is a 40 mm offset) so even with the 17" wheels, the caliper is right against the inside of the wheel.

The front C36 brakes all have AMG part numbers and you can source data from your local MB dealer to determine what you need to do this swap. I know the brake lines are extremely long, they are not from the SL but are custom AMG items.

As far as I know, there are no A arm differences between the C280 and the C36, not sure about the C220 though. The C36 uses a re-valved Bilstein shock, different springs and different sway bars than the C280.

I didn't know the rear brake was from an E 420. Do you think I could mount E420 brakes in the front with less problem than the SL600 (since my C220 has 35mm offset as well as the E420)?

Black Mercedes: Maybe the key issue is the width and offset, I thought that I read in the C36 lit that 17" wheels were required to clear the front calipers, but I could of been mistaken.

DTM FAN: I can not really comment about the E420 front brake setup. I am sure they are superior to the brakes on the C220, but by how much I do not know. It would be a much easier upgrade if you could locate someone who has done such a swap, that way they could let you know what problems to expect. Since AMG did the swap on the C36 for the SL600 front brakes, you should not have to fabricate anything, since all parts are readily available from your local MB dealership. Now doing the e420 brake setup on the C220, might be a different story
