95 320 ce black over gray currently in dry dock...head gasket blew and engine seized..have a 400E donor car coming to use engine and other vital parts. I am doing the swap myself with onsite technical assistance from an MB Master Tech ..he says this will be a real sleeper..wonder what he means by that??

Well, with a 400 litre v8 in a 124 coupe, whether a 300 or 320CE, , you will be a wolf in sheeps clothing. AFAIK all 124 coupes have a six cylinder engine...at least those badged 300CE or E320, which would be 88 thru 95, I think.

Look at it like a 500E.. normal 124 body, but a tiger under the hood.

Good luck with the conversion.

just got a 92 ce, unfortunatly the hacks that worked on it took out the engine and did some creative body work. They totalled the car so its getting parted out very very unfortunatly.

You guys ought to take a look at the March 2007 edition of Mercedes Enthusiast.

There is a W124 Coupe "buyer's guide."

Excellent reading.

The article calls the W124 Coupe a "future" classic and the Benz to buy now, before prices start to go up!

So, if you are thinking of getting a W124 Coupe, now is a great time!

I will soon post picts of my own, signal red 1991 300CE.

BTW, for you dieselheads, there is an excellent article on a very special W123 300D. The article is by our own Reed Hitchcock. His articles are always fun to read.

As far as I'm concerned they are already a classic, even though their prices haven't appreciated yet.

I put W124 coupes in the same class as W126 coupes and W124 cabriolets. They are all instant classics.

Worth Bothering With?

1988 300CE with 140K owned by a mechanic (but not MB mechanic).

Claims he's done a lot of work and owned since 80K. Asking $3000 (negotiable).

Comments? Thanks

I thought so.

He says it runs rough when it starts up, and then smooths out.

It has been unregistered for a few months, which made me a little suspicious.

Then there's something wrong with it. It should never run rough. It doesn't mean I wouldn't buy it, but I'd sure check it out first.

I was looking for a few cars with the 12V and they had the same probably seemed to run good most of the time though. Took it to a tech, required valve work. Personally, I aint real impressed with that engine anyway...
