Help: '04 e320 wagon rear folding backrest stuck

Hi: Need help on a recently purchased '04 e320 Wagon. The rear folding backrest is stuck and will not fold down. This is on the driver side (passenger side works fine). The release lever on top of the seat feels like it's no longer connected to the latch mechanism and dispite multiple attemps to brute force the release, it will not budge. Is there any way to get into the locking mechanism and manually releasing the latch?

Looking at the parts diagram, it looks like the leather cover and lining can be removed to expose the latch. What's a good method to remove the seat cover?

Thanks,
Mike

Question

Did you ever get this fixed, I have the same problem, but I also have the rear curtain/net on the locked back so the access is worse, I have got the head rest sockets out and the red indicator block out but the top trim on the top of the seat is my show stopper at the moment, any input on how the seat comes apart or the top trim comes of welcome.

Trunk, servos, '94 wagon?
There is a button in the door jam that unlocks the seat back. Try pulling it out.

Thumbs up Fixed mine

See the pdf mostly pics
Also If you need to repair any of the interior plastic parts that crack and brake so easily, Araldite 2022, does a very good job its expensive but still cheaper the dealer pricing for new parts, it is thick and sets to a creamy colour, and can be carved like cheese just before it sets hard.
