Since the key was purchased at a dealership, it should have been synchronized there. When I bought mine, the lady told me to try all the remote functions BEFORE inserting it into the ignition and if the remote didn't work, bring it back and they will fix it.

Is your key the kind that has no "blade", just a short, blunt end that goes into a square hole? If so, it's the same as mine. Mine cost $154 at the dealer so yours is not far off that price. I've heard of others being more expensive...

PNP is Plug and Play by the way...

I think a new key needs to be registered, I would call and ask to speak to the service manage or director of service. If that di oes not work ask to meet the Zone MB rep the next time he /she is in the area also try 1800formercedes and register a complaint about the sync function (which is valid I think)

The reason why you must go to the dealer for the code, is security. Anybody could steal a radio, come in here, ask for the code, and have a working, stolen radio to sell.

Good luck with the key thing.

All this and you've got a taste for Mercedes'........ Where have you been all my life.

I've gotten what I'd assume is the same replacement key for my E-430. I just went in to the dealer, not even the one I purchased it from, and they were able to sync it for me at no charge. The radio code as a 5 minute freebie at any dealer.

I'd suggest you put your "paid for" goods to use and get that key programed at no cost.

Jubie- I can get your radio code, but maybe not till I'm back at work on Monday. I'll see if I can call down and get it Saturday morning if some one is there that can run it for me.

I've never tried this without using the MB diag tool, BUT try this:

stick your new key in the ignition and turn to the second position (this lets the AAM learn what key # you are using)
remove the key, press and hold the lock button and within the next 10 second, press the unlock button 5 times, then release the lock button.

The key should work after that. 98-05 ML's are typically the only model whose keys don't come pre-synced. They still used DAS 2b instead of the infrared DAS 3 keys all the other models use after 1996.

Body by Fisher, Attitude to match...

Think highly of yourself don't you?

Sounds like your attitude matches the size of your implants!

Try getting a sense of HUMOR when you are at the dealership aloch with the Radio Code and the program for your key!

Well THANKS A LOT, I tried that at my local MB dealer today, and the service manager punched me in the face! Luckily, my beard covers most of the bruising.

Good luck Jubie, even if it does turn out to be legitimate that seems like an awful lot of money for a dang car key.

They'll be able to get you your radio code for sure, though.

Radio code is 11152

FYI you've got an open recall still for the harmonic balancer- you should take the car in and get that checked/replaced. It's a recall so it's no cost to you.

This is the most throught-provoking thing I have read all day.

Jubie,

You really need to take your car in for the Harmonic Balancer recall.

Everything is covered by Benz while they do the work. They'll even give you a free loaner car.

Should this part go bad like it did on my car, it can cause all sorts of ancillary damage, like cracking your timing chain cover and oil pan.

Theses parts are also covered by Mercedes should the part fail, but instead of taking a day, it will take up to a week.
