Re-gear E 320?
I'd like to put a taller final-drive in my '94 E 320, and have a spare 2.65:1 from an '87 300D.
Any reason the entire '87 diff wouldn't bolt into the '94 subframe? Changing that and the speedometer seems like all I'd need (to have a 3000rpm 80mph cruise). Anything I'm overlooking? I don't mind losing the ability to spin the tires at launch.

Your E320 is already 2.65. The only thing taller is 2.24 from a 400E/E420.

Hmm, I know where there's a rusty 400E, thanks!

I'm going to try and look at a 400E this weekend. Then I get the engine too!

I wonder if there is any problem with mismatch between the wheel speed sensor readings and the speedomoter readings.
