Yes.... the issue being that it depends on where the seller wishes to go with it if we discover it needs both. He may decide to not take what I then offer. I don't really mind doing the thing, and having them done right. If the price I pay allows for some of that.

I did have my code reader with me but I didn't (yet) attempt to pull codes. There was no warning lamp showing and when I concentrated on the oil leak issue and that was unresolved I put it of. Knowing I would have to revisit it next week.

I have an agreement to buy it if the oil leak turns out to be something minor and is completely resolved by the Seller. And I also have an agreement to revisit and reinspect for these other things even then. So I will finish up these other things once the Oil leak issue has been accurately diagnosed.

The Seller is a wholesaler. He also owns a few Honda dealerships. He as looking out for one for me. He took this car in on trade and had notified me he had one coming in yesterday from the dealership. So I arranged to meet him when it arrived at his wholesale shop. While I was on the way there, he called me to inform me it had just arrived and they saw oil leak where they had parked it. He told me that he wanted me to know before I got there but I decided to go on and start the look see. Because he has a lift there which was a great advantage to me to use. He and I spent two hours going over the car because both of us had not examined the car yet. We put it up on the lift and removed that belly pan and both of us tried to figure out if we could pin point it. Finally we cleaned the whole area and then I took it out for a long drive and we then put it up on the lift again. We both still could not see (or be certain) we were seeing new oil And no drips exuded to the ground in the next half hour or so. Finally we decided to let it sit over the weekend in the same spot with the belly pan off, and have his mechanic see if he could determine it. We both noted the obvious previous work that had been done. The new steering box, the new Water pump, All the new coolant hoses that had put on and the evidence of previous oil in the recovery tank. I noted to him the fresh wrong (Green) coolant.

So thats where we left it. And he is to call me next week when they can get a better idea. And he now will check the wiring harness as well as I had not gotten past the oil leak yet. He and I will then revisit the whole thing once we know. He has options to just dump the car to another wholesaler and recover his trade in costs or sell to me if that cost is the same. But I might not consider it worth as much as that cost might be. I don't know what it is. I will determine that when I make an offer real quickly. If his answer is no then I will know I am under it.

The car is a 1994 with 127K miles on it. Very clean. Engine bay is immaculate outside of the oil on lower area blown about. All things work including original radio. However the few problems and cosmetics are a balky slow sunroof (slow returning probably lubrication issue) a broken passengers side mirror which is all there and intact but non functional and obviously someone tried to pry it open and had no idea how to do so. Will need replacing. No biggie as I can R&R and repaint but will reduce price paid, one small door dent on drivers side and probably can be popped out as no crease. Paint is excellent overall and interior is excellent.

However, I also have an interesting one to move onto. A 1990 with 150K that is not quite so clean but is clean. And it has an oil leak but reportedly from the front end. It has been removed and replaced back in for some reason I have yet to determine. Owner is a lady that doesn't seem to know the real reason nor terminology so I gotta go look for myself. This one would not have a wiring harness issue and might have a simple leak. Might not. But I cannot get much out of her technically. She says the motor was replaced. However her claimed $2000 cost to replace does not match anything that would be reasonable. It might match a R&R for Head Gasket though. She is technologically challenged. So I am going to have to go look for myself.

AC evaporator

Don't forget about the third "weak Link" on these 124s- the dreaded evaporator leak. That repair requires pulling the dash and heater box to replace = major bucks.

I'm replacing the evap in my father's 95 E300 right now. Good threads on this site to follow, but it is very labor intensive.
