Yeah, the top nut should be loosened to remove the sensor and leave the rest of the threaded post on the bracket.

These are usually rusted pretty good and need to be hit with some PB blaster a few times before removal.

Sometimes the top nut will not unscrew but the whole post will want to come off which is usually the case. Doh!
