Short answer, no.
Long answer, yes, but you will have to convert it to a 2.6 body in the process, and then have to remove the radiator to change the belt, etc. My mechanic hates to work on the 2.6 (smaller version of the 3.0 six) -- no room. Probably not worth it. I would trade for a 300E instead. Peter

Why not a 190E 16v or a 2.6 190E.
As the others said, not really worth it when they made the 2.6, which was quite a quick little car actually. Friends dad had one years back. Though he switched from a 59 190 coupe or sedan, I forget if it had 2 or 4 doors. It did not look like the sl/gullwing att he time, it was a saloon car with colum shifter... looked like the ol 220's. What about...
A 3.0 in a 2.6 109e? Or even a 3.2?

If the 3.0/3.2 are exactly the same physical external size, yes. If anything on the front is longer, no. The radiator support is bolted on so you can take if off the change the belt -- it still helps to pull the rad. The belt, etc is UNDER the radiator support on this car. Exact engine length is critical -- there is almost no room between the fan and the rad in the 2.6.
