Hey guys. I put 2 new springs in my mothers 2001 E320 with 90K on it. She barely drives the thing and it had both front springs broken.

Upon replacing them, I noticed the left front spring perch starting to tear away. I snapped a few pics. She is supposed to go to florida (from NY) next week but I dont know if thats a good idea. What do you guys think? The pass. side is fine. Excellent engineering to use 2mm thick tin to brace the bracket.

Thanks

Read the posted links. It can be repaired. But the car is not safe to drive until it is repaired. The perch could fail at any time. I've not heard of the failure causing an accident, but nonetheless would not want to experience it myself.

Get it fixed. Either your mom needs to postpone the trip, or have her fly down and ship the car after it is repaired.

Thanks for the info. I just called my dealership and they said there was a recall on the 97 and 98, and it would be taken care of free of charge if it was one of those years. He said they have never heard of a problem on the later models from 99-02, which I think is BS. He emailed the regional rep and is going to get back to me today on Mercedes' course of action, if any.

Will let you guys know. Honestly, if they dont do anything, she is going to dump this lemon and get a toyota. Cant say I blame her for all the grief this car has caused her.

Just got an email from my SA. He said that MB is covering all spring perch failures on the 210's. They will only cover the perch itself and the labor. If springs are broke, they wont cover. That is good news!

Good deal. BTW, got a kick out of your comment. 90K on an 8 year old car doesn't strike me as particularly low mileage. My 2001 210 just rolled 66K this week. That is hardly driving it...
