C230K(202) AC Clutch Wont Engage, Manual AC
Sorry for yet another A/C thread...
This is a '99 C230K (202) with MANUAL A/C controls, meaning no pushbuttun unit and no way to read diagnostics. Unfortunately almost all the threads, on all the boards refer to the pushbutton unit, which was rare on 202's in Canada. Last year my A/C worked perfectly. For the winter I left the EC button (economy control, turned off compressor) on (a mistake I guess). Now the weather is starting to warm up so I decided to test the A/C and...nothing. I looked under the hood, and it appears the A/C compressor is not engaging. The compressor turns smoothly and easily when turned by hand. I did a search and read many threads. Some would suggest the evap. temp sensor as the culprit. From what I understood though, a bad evap temp. sensor usually allows the compressor to spin, but disengages it prematurely. Mine NEVER engages. I also have the 3 wire pressure sensor, so I cannot jump it... When I press the EC button, the light goes on, or off, however I dont hear any relays clicking, or anything happenning at all. I only found one fuse related to the climate control, and it was fine. What should I do next? Is there any way to test the temp sensor, or fool it somehow? Will an OBD II reader read my A/C codes like the PBU does? Also is it possible the compressor wont engage if its still to cold outside? Thanks. |
