'89 190E 2.6 Tracing Fuse Power

Help !!! Please !!!

re: '89 190E 2.6 Tracing Fuse Power

1. The following do not work: clock, interior lights, flashers, seat belt warning, trunk lamp, sun visor light ..

2. Fuse #13 controls all these and there is no power to the fuse in Acc or On or Start ...

3. Changed fuse, new flasher switch, new MultiFunction relay in fuse box that controls flasher, etc.

4. When I hit the flasher switch the turn signals will not work, but neither do the flashers.

What other checks can I make?

Thanks a million ....

Umail ...

Fuse power

I would not rule out a problem that may be in the electrical part of the ignition switch. This part screws into the rear of the lock cylinder and has contacts for everything requiring power with the key. If a connection has broken within the switch because of wear and tear then replacement is necessary.

Also could try pulling the entire fuse holder out of the fuse box and checking the tightness of the screws holding the wires to the buses, the fuse from the ign switch I believe is unfused, is not fused until the appropriate wire is attached to the fuse bus, then through the fuse and out to the various consumers on the fuse. You want to especially check the side where you just see single wires, those are from the ign switch. They can loosen up over time, have seen it before.

Yeah there are phillips screws which hold the "guts" of the fusebox into the box itself. You need to have the hood all the way up (standing straight up, if you don't know how to do that, then we need to talk). Then you can pull the fuse panel (guts) of the fusebox up. There won't be a lot of slack in the wiring, but the screws CAM be checked, 190s not really the roomiest car to work on under there.

On CDs comments, it is possible but not the first thing I'd check at this point. The whole ignition switch/steering lock has to come out to seperate it. I'd check this first, or if you wanted to identify what color wire and terminal out of the ignition switch is responsible for this circuit I would probe the wires with a test light before taking the thing apart, it's a pretty specialized job, special tools etc, will get pretty involved just to check it.
