Alternator Fan Question

Hello everyone,

I just upgraded my 190E 3.0's alternator from the 80 amp (which died) to a 143 amp AL0162 X, that I got from the parts store for ~$175. Now it didnt come with a fan on it. Should I find one for it? It is important? Anyone know where I might get one for it? My 80amp already went back for core....Sorry if these seem like noobish questions lol

Thanks,

Kris

Any Idea where I might get one from? Does it have to be from that model will other Bosch alt fans fit?

The higher output models can get pretty hot under load, I'd get a fan ASAP.

Thumbs up

Well I take it you two guys haven't seen the 143A from the W140s.

I have had the same alt on my 300SDL AND the 300SEL for years now without an external fan, it's all internal... think Ford 3G. No where external can you mount a fan and have the belt line up due to case design.

Six others from BMW, GM, and Ford.

I put a custom made 140 amp Delco alternator on my 560SEL. That guy took a stock unit, put on a new front shell to get a mounting unit close to the MB one, put on a v-pulley in place of the serpentine belt pulley, and a special one-wire voltage regulator.

In other words, go find a local, good alternator rebuild shop and see what they can do for you. They'll be able to look up that alternator and see what it needs and/or wants.
