I think the problem is that the thread shafts are perpendicular to the badge face instead of angular.

The older MB grill louvers are not angular, so the badge just slips right into the grill at any desired area, and you just tighten the nuts on the other side. The newer MBs have angular louvers, making it difficult to find a suitable location for mounting.

I just installed the badge on my 300E last weekend, and found that the ONLY area on the grill I could affix the badge was near the lower quadrant. The angle of the upper grill louver areas were steeper, so it would not allow the badge to be mounted flush against the grille.

i got it installed. but i think im going to take a tubing bender and bend the thread shafts. so they are angled. and then ill shorten them.

then find a second set of nuts so there are two holding the badge together and two holding it to the grill.

I didn't want to risk snapping the shafts off, so I left them as is.

The supplied nuts hold the mileage tag onto the MB logo so leave them be...I just went to the hardware store and picked some nylock nuts to complete the task.

Just installed mine and it does sit pretty much vertical versus the slope of the grill. I might try bending the threaded bolt but after waiting 6 months for the thing, I sure don't want to risk breaking it!
