300e rough idle

I recently changed my plugs (copper ones) and plug wires on my 300e. Everything was fine for a week then all of a sudden when I shift into reverse or shift into drive with my foot still on the brake theres a few hickups in the idle but once I get moving all is fine. Do you think the ovp realy may need to be looked at? Im planning to change the fuel filter too so i'll see if that helps any. I know this might sound wierd but before I changed plugs and wires the car felt stronger off the line. but top end is better. I guess what I mean is the car feels a little more softer when flooring it. I guess the saying if it aint broke dont try to fix it holds true .

Not to insult your intelligence but are the plug wires connected properly (all the way) on the plugs? I usually spray a little penetrating oil inside the plug wire boot to ensure is snaps on tightly.

You replace the plug and wire for a while, and run ok, so, I don't really think you plug the wrong wire to the wrong plug.

ok, you press on the brake and reverse? isn't it? well, I think you can check your wire, whether it have a good conduction to the plug and the distrubutor, it possiblly causing by the bad connection, so the spark is not strong enough in high tourque condition, and may be you can try hard acceration, then you might feel it miss fire, this is also the same thing.

I have this situation before, but not in the Mercedes.

hope this can help.

DOes it idle smoothly in Park or Neutral?
I know there is some engine connection of some sort that is hooked to what gear you're in (D, R, or N/P).
Don't remember what it's called though.

Well out of curiosity I added some redline fuel injector cleaner . Didn't help much. I also checked to make sure all wire connectors were secured but no change.

How wide did you gap your plugs?

Sounds like the ovp relay to me. I had the same problem in the past and replacing the relay solved the problem. They are relatively easy and cheap to replace.

Gary,
Do a search on the OVP... you will come up with EVERY LITTLE PEICE OF INFO you could ever want about it.
In brief it's a commonly faulty relay... called the Overvolt Protection Relay. It can be changed yourself (simply unplugs and plugs in) under the hood, and can be had here from partsshop for about $50.
This topic has been BEATEN to DEATH!!
