w124 Fuel / Starting
The new w124 seems to have odd fuel patterns.
after you sit the car overnight, the guage drops the next morning. I am getting 300Kms to a tank before it hits reserve - this doesnt seem right. anyone got correct stats for economy? also, its damn hard to start of a morning, or after work. kicks over on second go only if i put my foot on the gas. im suspecting some fuel pump/accumulator problems? but any info is much appreciated folks. cheers, Luke

What is your mpg (or km/g)? Highway driving I've had my 300E hit 30mpg, but city (built on a hill) driving drops it down to 15 or lower. Anything lower than 20 highway and 12-15 city I would be concerned.

I would suspect fuel leak some where as if that milage is in KM's because you are not in the US then yes you have a problem. I get 300 miles to the tank which should easliy over 400 KM's in your car and I have the V8 model. Your leaking somewhere, or your fuel distributor is flooding the engine or something.

I would personally forget about the fuel mileage and fix the problem(s) at hand...that may fix your MPG issue eh?

Around town driving you should be getting around 14litres/100Ks or about 420Ks per tank.
This is around 25miles per Australian old gallons (Stopped using gallons and pints back in 1974). You should get around 10 - 11litres per hundred Kms on a country run. Sounds like you have fuel issues starting with your Fuel pump relay. I have just replaced all the injectors in my M103 W124, cleaned the throttle body and adjusted the air/fuel mixture. Fuel economy has improved 20%. I also use 98 octane. |

Also check fuel check valve, It helps maintain fuel pressure at startup as it retains pressure after car is turned off through most of the system.
