Mixing oil?
I have read a couple of threads that you should not mix oil. Can someone explain what would happen if you do? Say, I am using 10W30 in the engine and then add a quart of 10W40 in the fix. What will happen inside the engine? I am always curious about this topic.

Nothing will happen if you mix. It is a requirement of oil specifications to be able to be different kind of oil without any adverse effects.

Ali's right.
The difference would be more significant had it been a mix between synthetic and conventional oil.

Right, nothing will happen and your engine will not notice it.
The viscosity may rise a bit due to the addition of the 10W-40, to something like 10W32.:p |
