I've replaced a W126 sway bar, be prepared for about 25 hours of work. More on a 560 due to all the stuff they jammed behind the firewall.

I'd go ahead with the weld on end guy. A friend of mine did this with his 300SE, worked quite nice.

I have a friend that welds on classic cars, so he is neat and a perfectionist. I am waiting a call from him. I will probably order the Peach part anyway, then return the Napa one less shipping costs.

No problem. Its all part of the learning. Glad I found the repair kits though. I called Peach but no return call yet. Might call again tomorrow so I can get part by Friday. Lining up welding and vehicle transport now.

This thread saved me a lot of research too...I noticed in my SD that it began to rust under the battery where the swaybar mount is, glad to know there is a repair part that can go in after patching/rewelding it all back together. Thank you for those that posted info in here

And should I do both right away? Or is the driver's side prone to failure the most. I would hate to do this then a week later have the other side fail!

It would be pretty straight forward to pull that other wheel off and remove the bolt on the end of the swaybar and get a look at it! Following all the proper procedures and precautions of course!

True that. Guess I will go with the single install, since I have to order the Peach part in the morning. Then inspect the other. Really, its not that hard of a job or location to work in to weld.

Is welding going to weaken the sway bar? In some threads that has come up often as a concern. Who has installed the Peach kit and how long has it been working. Or has anyone has a sway bar fail after welding?

That is why I voiced my concern over it. I'd feel better about it if it were a clamp-on. It is technically a spring and made of spring steel, then someone thinks up a way to WELD an extension on it. If you go ahead with the repair I would make it clear that you want the weld sprayed with water after each weld to at least try to give it some tensile strength back. Maybe the instructions for it say this as well.
I just think it's a hokey idea, y'know? SORRY your sway bar broke, it should be replaced, gee maybe they can come up for an extension for a coil spring too, I've seen those break and it's such a pain to replace, so I'll just repair my broken coil spring. While I'm at it I'll go buy a fiberglass repair kit for my gas tank, those work good too.

I plan to replace it at some point anyway. The fit will be temporary at best. Hopefully temporary at MY choice

Just need a new bar. I would not want to put a used one in. So far only Benz seems to have new and its $314 I do not have the time, and will not, for a couple weeks to do the work myself. So a quicker fix will have to work for now.

I see you live in the rust belt. Many times the torsion bars fail as a result of rust where the bar and the upper control arm join. I lived in Milwaukee for 15 years and I watched in anger as my cars dissolved before my eyes. Usually the cars that have this problem are in areas where they salt the roads.

I would be interested to know if rust contributed to the failure.

Please let us know.

Thanks Rob. Then I am glad that today I ordered two of the Peach kits that are shipping second day for Friday delivery.

What the heck is the guide rod? Like a strut rod? I also see Peach is cheaper for the same thing. Thanks for pointing it out, I will show them that not only will it not work, its the wrong part!
