If you purchase one from here, pick up ten or so that way you do not have to deal with ordering filters for a while... then next time you get low (under three), order up more.

Why even bother going to the dealer?

To see and hear
The owners of newer MB s (Who do not have a clue) weep and cry when they're
handed their copy of the final R.O. "$350 Dollars for an Oil Change?"

Because I was passing right by there anyway and the last filter I purchased (9 months ago) was $8.00 and was the correct MB filter.

Oh yeah, they are real winners.
![]() Even I could do better than that. At least I know that a 88 Mercedes "300" means it has a 3 liter engine and not a 4.5L. I mean, come on? ![]() He turned away and murmered... "I dont think its a 3.0L". ![]() Quote:

I know this is an old thread, but wanted to update now that I have an update... LOL!
Today.... finally ended up using the "BMW" oil filter that our local Mercedes dealer sold us for my moms '88 300SEL a few months ago...... well it worked fine like everyone said, its a taller filter for sure (the MB filter I had on there before was pretty short), but the rest was the same size and it worked fine. Guess I worried for nothing. Just never guessed a BMW filter would even fit it, lol. Thanks for the replies! |

If it fits, and your oil pressure behaves the same, it's probably compatible. On my M102, on once used a filter where the pressure was about a bar lower than the correct one at the same rpm. It turned out it was actually the wrong filter, was one for a VW.
PS Roll Tide.

Wow. You are a brave man. I would've just gone to NAPA and gotten one of their NAPA Gold filters which are made by WIX, they are OK to use in a pinch. They have the anti-drain back valve. The Mobil 1 Oil filter does not have this valve and every once and awhile I will get a few seconds of lifter tick on freezing startup while the filter is re-filling. Next oil change a Mahle filter is going on.
