how important is the silencer?
I have a 1980 Mercedes model 250. Gas engine. No catalytic converter.
I need to replace the pipes after the exhaust manifold and before the muffler. The center pipes (dual) have a silencer near the end. What happens if I just replace the pipes, but leave the silencer off? I realize it might be louder, but will it hurt the engine? Thanks |

As far as I know it won't hurt the engine but it will possibly change your fuel consumption as I guess with out the silencer you'll have a more free flowing exhaust system. Like you say I guess it will be louder and depending on where you are you could end up in trouble with the authorities for that...
