With so many posts and views, I was going to post pics of my three to keep this thread running, but then realised all my jpegs are larger than the 65k allowed. Too bad, unless someone can make them smaller.

Again not the best pictures but it shows that the newer AMG/CLK wheels look pretty OK on my oldie. (Normally it sits lower than the picture indicates...)

That's a 111/112 convertible right? When I took my car in for service there was a beautiful gorgeous perfect 280SE http://www.hatchandsons.com/pages/sales/vintage/0002 I sat in it and I just said to myself "this is the coolest MB I have ever sat in" beats the 500E! All the woodwork, switches, everything... especially the woodwork.... One day.... one day I'll have one! Enjoy that car Gregg!

Holson,
Yes the 220SEb is a 111 chassis. The 280SE and 280SE 3.5 cabriolets that you sat in are a little outside of my affordability range ($50,000-75,000). They both have the same body style and interior appointments with the biggest difference being the engine horsepower and fuel injection design. My automatic transmission was MBZ first attempt at an automatic, so it is a curious but reliable performer. The 220 at 135 HP is a underpowered for the heavy but sturdy body/chassis that it has to motivate, but it satisfies my need for cruising at 90 MPH. Looks, comfort and reliability for between 15- $20K is compensation enough. Mine is an Arizona car so it is absent of any rust other than some surface stuff under a rubber the trunk mat due to a worn trunk weatherseal, which I am replacing. The underside undercoating that the factory applied is really thick and has protected the underside over the years. Although a little pricey, Mercedes Classics division still makes available almost all the replacement parts. I think that the European headlights add to the appearance. |
