Question Price for timing chain and rails on 560sl--SF, CA area

Happily I don't have to do this work today, I was quoted $1,200 to replace the timing chain, rails and I the tensioner on a 1987 560sl, 91K miles. High end reputable shop in Oakland. For those of you who pay the outrageous labor costs of the Bay Area, does this sound high? Have you had it done elsewhere for less?

Thanks!

Out of curiousity, what shop is it? Import Motors? AutoPro? All Mercedes? Sorry to not answer your question, but I live in Oakland and am curious as to which shop people here are going to.

Import Motors. I got to them from comments here suggesting that even if they aren't cheap they are honest and reliable. They seem knowledgable also, but I'll advise further after I get the car back having fixed the six problems that developed after I bought it.

I've also had references to All Mercedes and to Fritz & Peters, but went with Import as it has been around a long time.

I'm not sure if this would apply to your car, but my brother just had his timing chain done, not sure if rails and tensioner needed, but he spent only $500.00 on a 1985 380sl.

But that is here in los angeles.

I think he only had a new chain put in

I was just quoted at $600 here in NJ. The labor rate is $75/hr. at this particular shop.
