Lower Ball Joint replacement

Hello all,
It's time to replace those ball joint's. I have purchased both sides, my question: Can I do it myself or does it require special tools?
Thanks for your help!

If its the 300e you can probably do it with a standard balljoint press. I used one from Auto-Zone for free. The ball joints are at a slight angle and I used a small pipe wrench as a mandrel on the bottom istaed of the press tool. If you don't you will never get them out. I did the on my 190E which shares a lot of suspension parts with the 300E. Give it a try if it won't budge, button it back up. I popped off the steering knuckle from the lower ball joint and then went at it with the press supporting the lower arm with a jack stand.

lower ball joint replacement

Only do this with the correct tool. The joint is at an angle in the control arm socket and it is very difficult (highly unlikely) for one to press it back in without the special tool. It is very easy to ruin the new joint AND the control arm without using the correct press tool.

There are places that rent these tools and they are worth the rent fee.
