722.358 tranny
I got a mercedes tranny 722.358 that I was going to rebuild and put it in my wifes car when her tranny goes out. Her car (1992 300D 2.5) has a 722.4 tranny in it, the 722.358 came out of a 1990 300E 2.6. My question is will the 722.358 work in my wifes car?

If you happen to have the chassis types then this thread has all the combinations for the 722.3 transmissions
Transmission swap - 1982 turbo 300D thanks to rs899. EDIT:- sorry having just checked the thread I've noticed there are no 722.4 transmissions listed there. We need to find someone with a similar list putting body type with transmission. So BUMP anyone got that?

The 722.4 is a smaller case and you'll need the matched driveshaft.
Other than that, it'll bolt up no problem.

Great, I have the driveshaft from the 722.3 tranny. So it will work, I have heard the 722.3 is a stronger tranny then the 722.4? Is that true?

Yes, it is stronger. They last about the same amount of time though due to the original application ie: less HP/less weight chassis.
