83 SEC odometer

I just bought this SEC w/138,234 mi. showing and maintenance records to 127,850 in '98. It has a trailer hitch. The problem I noticed is following a car doing 60 MPH,mine read 66MPH. The trip odometer turns .5 when it should be 1.0 miles. Question is could the rear gear cause this? Since it has a hitch the previous may have tweaked the drivetrain,or do I just need odometer-speedometer repair. Before I noticed all this the MPG calculated to be 8 MPG,actually it should be 16.
thanks-malk

First, take a look at the tires/rims on the car and compare to the manual to see what it should have. That could be part of the problem with the MPH reading, the odometer could be showing only partial mileage due to age/wear. The odometer on the 108 was only registering approximately 50% of the distance driven until I had the speedo head rebuilt.
