300SE fuel distributor

The other day I disscussed with my mechanic a thread I read here about fuel distributors and rough Idle . It suggested, if I remember correctly - that when depressing the air flow sensor plate and finding a wet " interior wall" in the air volume meter housing (oily wet- in my case) - Most likely I had a leak somewhere in the fuel distributor. My mechanic suggested instead that I have a faulty EHA valve and I should have that replaced.
Any thoughts as to the path I might take ?

Has your mechanic actually diagnosed the problem as being a faulty Electro Hydraulic Actuator(EHA) ?

Hi Mike,
After I complained of poor gas milage along with what I felt was ( again ) a mild rough Idle/slight shudder as the car comes to a stop - we hooked the car up to the computer. While adjusting the air / fuel mixture the mechanic suggested the shudder was caused by a faulty EHA .It is not governing the right amout of fuel that goes through - As a result , when the car is slowing down to a stop it has "too much" fuel in the system - as it were.
I am no expert on the matter. Since both the distributor and the EHA are expensive items I am asking for advice on the forum before making a decision...

It all comes down to this - do you trust his judgement? If so, have him repair the car. If not, get a second opinion. Your tech analyzed the problem with specific equipment. It would be hard for anyone here to 2nd guess his opinion.

I was actually going to order parts and do the job myself , hence the questions - but thanks anyway.

Don't let the wet look fool you,the crankcase vapors also flow through the same area.
If the E.H.A. is leaking the wet spot would be on the outside.
In the the case of rough idle the first things to check would be,
engine tune up w/correct plugs,o2 sensor/lambda,vacuum leaks.
If all these are in order pull out the injectos and have them tested for proper opening press. and spray patterns.

Hi Mike,

Just to bring you up to speed on my car. there is no apparent "wetness" around the exterior of the EHA.
This rough idle (now quite minor) and poor gas milage have been going on for months . As I have reported here before as I went along.. Step by step I have already replaced plugs,wires, distributor cap & rotor, injectors,fuel pump&filter, motor mounts,cleaned the Idle control vave and replaced the hoses leading to it.
All are good for the car and fun for me to do, though none have really solved the problem.
Now - when adjusting the mixture last time with the computer , the mixture got richer (i believe) and the idle smoothed out completely for a couple of weeks. Took it back to the shop last week to readjust the mixture - Voila, smooth again.
That is when the discussion over EHA versus distributor failure began....

P.S - I am not sure what you mean by - Don't let the wet look fool you,the crankcase vapors also flow through the same area.
