A little help with california emissions...

Hey everyone! I was wondering if someone could fill me in on California emissions... I have a 92 300e, and I live in Texas, where they don't run emissions tests, and if they do, they have never botherd me about one... Im gonna be going to college in a year or so, and I was thinking about some colleges in Cali. I was wondering what, if anything, I have to do to my car to comply with emissions standards, or if I even have to meet them considering my car is pretty old...

On that 'new' of a car it should have the same smog equipment as a California car. If it has not been tampered with and runs well it should pass.

Question for current smog liscencees are there Federal and California cars being made in the 90's and 00's?

Not sure, but I think if attending in an out-of-State status, you can maintain your TX residence and keep you car registered at home. No need for Cal smog check then. Just make sure you get home a couple times a year.

My 190e was originally from New York. I don't know if anthing was done but the smog equipment on my M103 is an EGR valve and a smog pump, for what thats worth. But I agree with what Mike said, when your'e going to school your residance doesn't change so keep yout Texas plates.

Actually, if you are looking at a UC campus, you want to establish CA residency. You can buy a NEW car with the difference in in-state vs. out-of -state tuition over four years. The difference is substantial. Obviously doesn't apply to private universities/colleges. Most all Federal cars of the '90s up have all CA mandated smog stuff, but must pass the actual emissions test. I'd get the figures for CA and have your TX tech run your fed. car and see if it satisfies those requirements (they are not that different, if at all). FWIW.
