Something to do with lack of ground being able to handle more amps at the unit,,, uhmmmm So my thought was to put in a
Ford door lock activator 12 v to push the door lock via the signal from the relay and unit,, kind of like over riding the vac system using ele. solinod,,,but I have now experience on this,, :{
Not very many 300 SDL up here and nobody will touch them with a 10 foot pole :{ any suggestions are welcomed ty DD.

Your installer clearly doesn't know how Mercedes vacuum type locks work, it happens. We paid $200 for a guy to install keyless on the 420SEL. He did, he knew what he was doing but he didnt hook up the parking light flash, dome light or horn to the unit, which makes me feel like its kind of a half-assed job. Anyway let see what we can do for you.

Your 300SDL should have vacuum door lock all around right? That is if you put the key in the trunk and lock it..all doors lock? If so, then below is the appropriate wiring for you, I wrote this with the Avital unit in mind but it should apply to all keyless entry systems, keeping in mind that you compare wire colors and names.

In the case of earlier cars where Mercedes didnt supply vacuum to the driver's side door one had to install an actuator to pull down on the driver side linkage, thus locking/unlocking the car. The 2nd generation of 126 do not need this, they can be triggered at the vacuum pump located in the spare tire well.

500mA should be plenty to start/stop the Vacuum pump. In this case the 500mA signal is simply telling the vacuum pump to turn on. It is not actually providing the power for the pump.

I installed a setup similar to this in my 190E (same type of locking setup as your 300SDL) and it works fine.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hope you get it working! Is the unit already installed for other features or is it just sitting in a box waiting to be installed?

Yes it is in the car installed The installation seems good at least for alarm mode,,,, now to get the rest of the unit up and running,, as per your recommendations
The unit has a diesel glow plug option,, and a turbo cool down cycle and some other stuff,,, but the remote starter job will have to wait for a hot summer day,, a case of beer and the 8 track playing Led Zep,,, :} and the wiffy better be at work all day cause I'll probably say a few choice words along the way
Cheers and thank you

I have a W201. I have seen some of them to be more expensive than the one you bought. They are like 150 or such. They claim you can install them next to the pump or in the trunk by the actuator. Well, they claim you don't do no wiring or on one you cut one wire and you are done! It won't do all the hype that way, but I think, it gives you remote access. Is it all that important to have all the other features?

Talking

If you just installed the remote entry set-up to lock & unlock the doors. Would the factory alarm system still operate like it always did? Like blowing the horn & flashing the lights?

Update:

I think my wiring diagram up top is wrong, here's the wiring out of my 190E and it works fine:

For wires 5/8.. you want to cut the yellow wire and attach one end of it to 5 and the other end to 8.

So like:
----x (5) (8)x--------

Dave, this is one case where the dealer is your friend. I just called my local MB dealer and was quoted $20 ea per key. Of course they want a copy of your title and license. No doubt they would be happy to provide you a properly set for your existing key drivers door lock.

Thumbs up

Just installed this kit on my SD last night. Drove myself nuts for three hours... turned out my alarm brain was not accepting input from key fob. It is out of warranty so I took it apart. Relays are fine and there is one IC I can replace cheaply, so we will see.

Anyway, kit works nicely for $30. I had to reverse my violets as lock would unlock the car and unlock would lock it.

It does not need the switched 12V to operate for these cars.
