Wastegate fault code, MAF sensor question - 98 E300

I am looking at the above car with the check engine light on throwing the wastegate solenoid fault code. Everything in regards to transducers and wastegate actuation looks and test fine. I hooked an OBDII device up with live data and noticed that whenever the MAF signal was passing through around 100-120 the signal will "go away". I've read that a failing MAF sensor can cause the wastegate code. Is this indicative of one of these going bad? For some reason my SDS does not pick up when the key is turned on so I have not been able to use it.

Could also be a bad K40 relay.

Found a serverely plugged catalytic converter. Cleaned all that up and everything is fine with no check engine light and the car runs like a scalded dog.

Oh yea, the car has been on 100% homemade biod for a few years now and the owner mentioned something about fuel residue plugging up the converter. Said the same thing had happened in his Ford truck.
