88 560SEL - Left Low Beam not working
Hi,
My left low beam isn't working. I've changed the bulb, and the fuse.... no luck. Curiously there is voltage at the plug (12.5v) when the lights are turned on... equally as curious, there is a different voltage at the fude terminals (10.8v). Any ideas? I'm stumped. (ps.... you might notice I have a few new posts on here, sorry for the flood, I have quite a few gremlins... thanks for your help!) |

Open up the fuse box, and tap the big long relay looking box then see if the low beam pops on.
I know on my 420SEL the one fog light turns off randomly and then if I tap that unit it will come back on.

Wiggled it, poked it, shook it.... no luck.
If the relay or the switch was bad, I'm assuming that I wouldn't see 12.5v at the plug? would I? The only guess I have is a dirty terminal in the plug, but I would also think that I could wiggle that to get the light to flicker.. but it doesn't. It a pretty small hole in the terminal... anyone have any idea how to clean it? Thanks again..... |

Have you verified the bulb is good?
Might swap left to right and see if the problem moves. Jim

You've got 12V to the bulb socket.... Have you checked the ground side? Bad grounds cause all kinds of unusual problems.

I wish my issue were that simple. I have a problem of a weak high and low beam. I have tried 3 bulbs and the results are the same.

I originally bought a new bulb without even checking. It didn't work, so I swapped with the other side, still didn't work.
There are three 'holes' on the plug. C L an H. I get 12.5v between C and L if lows are selected and 12.5v between H and C when highs are selected. I assumed it meant C-ommon(ground) L-ow H-igh. Still puzzled. |

The combo switch can cause grief too.
