Vibration when turning left- 1986 190e

Wondering if anyone can help. When I am driving, usually
on the interstate, and turn slightly to the left the car starts
to vibrate (it sounds and feels like it is coming from the
drivers side front area).

I thought it might be the tire so I had them rotated. It didn't
help. When I had them rotated, the tech mentioned that
this might be a wheal bearing issue.

Any ideas about the cost of replacing the wheel bearing for
this car. I found a price in fastlane for a "wheel bearing kit"
at $26 ( # K8020-29486 ) . Is that what I need? Can I do
this myself? What is a reasonable price for a tech to do it?
Thanks-

I would check the control arm bushings first.

When worn out, would allow some "play" that would be especially noticeable as a violent "shimmy", especially when cornering. That can't be corrected by tire balancing.

The OEM bushings are rubber but I think there are some aftermarket urethane units ??available??

Might be a good idea to get an alignment performed after installation...

I'm chasing a similar vibration myself. I doubt it's the bearings. But they are easy to check. Pull the wheel, tapout the dust cap (large screw driver and hammmer) there is a pinch nut on the hub instead of a castleated nut you may be used to, loosen the allen bolt and unscrew the nut. the out bearing willl then come out. inspect, repack and reinstall nut. tighten nut just till there is no play on hub but also no load on bearing. fill cap half full with grease and reinstall. If your bearings are bad you'll have to remove the hub and drive out the races and replace. As I'm having the same problem, I've had some posts on this referenceing the tie rod ends. I've got to check them this weekend. Good luck

More of a slight hum than violent shimmy....

Thanks for the posts. I'll try the regrease and see what
that brings.

Reading the other post, I realized that it is a humming
and it doesn't shimmy. Sorry for the lack of information.

When you check the bearing. Make sure you clean all the grease out of it and look closely at the surfaces of the bearings. If there are any imperfections - change it. Also check your bearing race for cracks or wear. One final thought. Before you remove the bearing - jack up the front of the car so the tire is off the ground and grabbing the tire at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock push it back and forth with effort looking for sideways play. I've had rear wheel bearings on non-mercedes cars that had a low howl and they were so worn the wheel had play in it.
