Unless I missed it my first and favorite suspect would be the OVP....
If the OVP ain't happy ain't nothing happy, as they say!

Yes. didn't want to mess with the old OVP so I received new unit yesterday. looks exact OEM. I also picked up a coil. Went to a donate car and picked up a complete fuel distro an throttle body. Fuel relay looks pretty new so I took that also.

ICV clicks when I power it up with 12volts.

Car has same ailment. Perfect when cold, warms up, begins to miss and dies. Then, I wait 20min to 1 hr....starts right up.

Could ECU cause all only when reaching warm running idle?

thx for the help. I'm thinking worse- head gasket.

I took and cleaned the icv and when I put 12volt it click around. But while on the car, I pulled the connector slightly back and there appears to be no power. using simple dummy light- no power on either connector. When should ICV have power?

I had that and it was the fairly new rotor arm that had prematurely failed. What make rotor arm did you fit?

I went back to the original, 17 year old MB rotor and all was well.

Interesting. One of the first things I did was replace cap and rotor with Bosch. Will check them just in case. Could have sworn rotor was made in Mexico but not sure. Cap for sure was Bosch. Will post result of the inspection.thx.

I didn't realize that I bought the distro cap/rotor 14mos ago! Not only that, but I failed to buy the 'o' ring seal so I had some debris in inside the cap, and build up on the points. I cleaned as best as possible and that now keeps the car from dying out at idle!!

Thanks a bunch!! Always the obvious. I'm ordering a new cap and a few other things. Wagon is driveable again.

Glad to hear it, good news.

Ignition parts on these cars work in a hostile environment and my experience has led me only to use MB original rotor (it has a resistor in it and the cheap one failed) and cap.

I do have leads and plugs from Beru and they seem fine.

Well done.

PS: Do spread the word to those people who immediately think that a misfire is the ICM or fuel distributor and they must put the wife on the streets to pay for it all. My motto is, "Always start with the cheaper, easy to replace parts."
