I second this procedure, but for anytime you remove the cluster. There are only a couple of screws that hold the kick panel in place. This way you know exactly where everything is when you push the cluster back in. These cluster pullers eventually end up breaking something.

Very good info in this thread. I need to remove my cluster to try to repair my odometer on my 90 300CE.
This info is a good start.
