Do I have ASR?
I have been fighting a limp home problem for 2 years. Today, I glanced at the instrument cluster and realized that while I have the triangle I don't have an ASR lamp! The car is a Federal car and the build codes do not show any ASR nomenclature. And when I go into limp home (on a cold startup) the triangle does NOT light. It will light if I break the rear end loose.
So do I have ASR? ![]() Anziani '93 320CE 208K '95 E420 128K |

Look at your ABS pump. If there's a black box over it you have ASR. Or run your VIN through EPC and check the data card.

Sorry, it is the '93 320CE and yes there is a black box on the ABS. I always thought I had ASR but the lack of "ASR" on the instrument panel threw me.
I did look up the data card on EPC ut there was no mention. However there was a few codes with no explanation. Thanks guys for your help. Anziani |

You do have ASR and that is indeed odd you have the triangle but not the lower yellow lamp.
But your ASR is fine; the limp home is caused by a low (or other??) voltage condition to the ABS pump. As you may recall, when I had my E320, limp only happened under those conditions.

Eric,
I remember you! We had the same symptoms then you sold your car. Thanks for aiming me towards the ABS system. I hear a relay chattering right before I go into limp home. It seems to be under the dash or at the relay box behind the fuse box. I'm also going to pull the cove off the ABS box and look around. Thanks Anziani |
