What kind of Battery do i need???
Hi everyone,
I have a 87' 300E. My car battery is dead. I'm looking for a new battery but I'm not sure what kind of battery I need. I went to Wal-mart looking for one, but they said they don't have batteries listed for mercedes benz. Anyone with a 87' 300E know what kind of battery size and cold cranking amp needed for my car???? thanks |

Look in your local yellow pages for an Interstate dealer. Their prices are competitive with everyone elses and they are used by alot of MB owners.
Your local dealer will know what's needed. |

oasis100:
I just went through this and here are your options: 1. If $ is not an issue, get an Optima battery or go to the Benz dealer to get one. Expect to pay between $100 - $120. 2. Get the cheapest Group 49 battery (big size) and replace it every 6 or 7 years (the length of the warranty of these batteries). Autozone has one for $59. There are only a handlful of battery makers in North America like Johnson COntrol et al. and many batteries are the same inside. I got the Autozone for my diesel and it has been wonderful so far (only about a month). |

If you can get 5 - 7 years out of a $59 battery, that is a good deal. That is about 2/3 hour of a MB tech's time, LOL.

$59US sounds cheap to you guys, but im in Canada.
Thats like $95 Canadian, then include shipping charges (40lb). Any Canadian mercedes owners on here? I checked my old battery its a interstate, i dont know where the pervious owner got it from. |

I have an old Chief Auto Parts battey in my 300CD. I've had the car about five years and the battery was in it who knows how long before I got it. I know I'll be in the market soon, so I dropped into Autozone to find out who was making batterys for them now. The manager told me that Interstate was making them. Thats where I'm going next. Can't remember the price but $59 sounds bout rite.

call 1-800-843-0200 for dealer locations in Canada. Buy the best one you can. I just put a #MTP-93 in my 560SEL. Cost me about $90 US and I installed it myself. I usually buy directly from the distributor rather than the dealers. I have a bunch of interstate batteries and have been happy with them.

'81 300TDT
I recently purchased an Optima with 850CCA but when the guy tested it, it read over 1000CCA!
They looked it up in a book, and said that it would be a good fit, despite the fact that it was a little smaller in dimension. I just laid it down on its side and it is holding very well. This is an "acid-free" battery with a 7-year warranty and I paid $120 from a local Batteries Plus. I know NAPA has them also for same price.

Good Morning Markham!! Winnipeg calling!!!
I have used several different brands of batteries in my cars - by far - Interstate has been the best. By far - the worst has been Canadian Tire. Due to time frames I was forced to get Canadian tire batteries three times. In every case (ON VW diesels) the batteries developed internal shorts within 18 months - were replaced under warranty and were replaced again. I would never buy another one. I have an old Interstate that is 8 years old and is still servicable. If you can't find an Interstate dealer in Markham, post back here and I will call Interstate in Manitoba to find out where you can get one there. On my 560sel I opted for the factory Mercedes battery - It is two years old now and working fine - but it cost me $270.00 CDN. Just going from memory (the car is still in winter storage) I think it was 1000 cranking amps - all I know is it it one heavy $#%^^&&!!! |

Hello All,
I know my response to this a bit late, but I thought I'd post for any future inquiries. You can go to the Interstate batteries web site (www.interstatebatteries.com) and punch in your postal code to find an Interstate Battery Distributor nearest you. These are the results I came up with. Main Auto Service: 905.947.0520 Ramster Auto Ltd: 905.475.2039 Danny's Auto: 905.479.3300 Richmond Heights Tire: 905.884.4401 Hope this is of some help. bluebenz Last edited by bluebenz; 04-22-2002 at 08:01 AM. |

In reality
Any battery that will fit. Mostly cause of the cables, and get the biggest one that will fit in the space. The numbers specified are minimum numbers, more is better. Walmart is fine, but cause they don't list your car (minimum size and type and position of cables) you could match one that will work.

Ive got an AC Delco battery on mine, and it does the job pretty well...theres a light on the top to tell you the battery condition as well, which is handy!
I would imagine about 500 cranking amps would be ok. |

thanks everyone
I got myself a AC Delco Battery. The problem now is not the battery, the car won't start, possibly something wrong with the ignition, the car doesnt even crank. There is also something draining the battery.
