Free 1989 300SE W126 Second Gen:
This car was given to me. 90,000 miles and has been in storage many years. Replaced fuel pump, filter and gasoline, new plugs and ran the fuel distributor with the lines off to purge clean fuel through the system. All the ports in the distributor flow fuel.
Here is the problem, which I think existed before the car was parked, hence the pitch-black plugs. The car will start and run ONLY if the injector lines are cracked, meaning there is way too much fuel entering the engine. Everything 'looks' good, but I am suspecting the fuel distributor/EHA valve. Thoughts????

DB:
Give a thought to unplugging the EHA; when it is in the "neutral", limp home mode it is only slightly rich. Then adjust the mixture screw progressively in the lean direction (CCW). If the plug is still in the adjustment tower between the airflow sensor and the fuel dist., the easiest thing to do is to drill out the screws that retain the tower. Alternatively, the fuel pressure regulator may be stuck, failing to return enough fuel to tank. |

Pressure test reveals 85 psi during pump operation, well within the specification....

Turned mixture adjusting screw in 5 turns and the 300SE starts and runs on its own. Adjustments to follow...
Thanks, Frank...

I was thinking you were giving it away. LOL. I'm going to look at 1990 model today that I might get if the interior is in good condition. I want to swap it in my 300SD. Sounds like the 300SE I am looking at has some starting issues, too. I just need it to drive home, though.
