I’m thinking of taking my ‘92 400e to an indy. I don’t know if the Star diagnostics is crucial for troubleshooting and diagnosing this model year.

The '92 still used the "blink codes" and not OBD, so not crucial. When the cars switched over to OBDII and Canbus, having the laptop with Mercedes software becomes much more efficient.
