6.9 fuel distributor

Hi all,
We have a new family member. 1978 450 SEL 6.9 with 150,000 miles.
Got it started yesterday by trickling fuel into the top of the engine after cleaning tank screen, new main fuel hose from tank, new fuel pump and filter, new plugs and fresh gas. The car has been off of the road for 7 years.
Fuel distributor is the culprit.
Any ideas on next step?

#?

thanks for the reply.
but
the number is a fax machine.

I was told that if a drip line is run to the top of the engine and run the engine for a while that the distributor might free up.

Am I at the correct place on the forum for the 6.9?

Either this or the vintage forum. Not a lot of 6.9's got built, so there aren't a lot of current or former 6.9 owners on this forum but there are a few.

As for running off a drip line to free up a fuel distributor, I haven't heard of that, since I mainly deal with diesels, but I don't think it would hurt.

6.9 and 4.5 use the same fuel distributor, nozzles, air flow meter, etc.
Much easier to find the parts from a 4.5/450.

I imagine its fuel system is much like any of the other V8's with a fuel distributor. Its probably gummed up/clogged from varnished gas from sitting so long. Might need to have it rebuilt.

rebuild

Yes, that is what I thought. It is 450 to 500 dollars for a rebuild. I have a friend that may have adapters to blow a can of carb cleaner through the distributor while cranking the engine. Will try this asap.

Do you all have an opinion on Sea Foam or other fuel additive that may help?
