Aftermarket headlights - 190e
When I got my 190e both headlamps and assemblies were rotted out and just trashed, so after looking around at headlamps from $300-$500, I located some aftermarket headlamps on e-Bay.
Please don't start the "I told you so." I just need to make it legal so I can drive it, not drop thousands of dollars into it (there is a lot more to do!). Anyway, my problem is that all of the aftermarket headlamps I saw had a 5-node connection where my headlamp connector is only 4 node. Also the corners use a 3 node whereas mine is only two. Does anyone have a possible solution besides "berate the newbie for buying aftermarket," or, "go buy factory."? Thanks! |

If you're trying to save money, get some junk yard headlamps.

If you're gonna spend $300-$500 on headlights, you may as well get the HID upgrade for only about $150 to $200. I had mine done on my 190 and its awesome!!!!190's...mercedes in general (well) the late models have terrible lights

i am not sure where you are with this...but the plugs you need are the same ones used on your tail lights..
if you haven't bought them yet..you can go to a bone yard and get them... same as a 124...it will be obvious when you go.. you can use the tail light plugs on your car for a reference

Ryan, I have since upgraded my HID lights by making projectors and using the same aftermarket euro housing. It is slightly involved, but very doable. Send me a pm.

Most of the aftermarket headlamps that have the different pin styles are just wired slightly different. Usually the headlights come with the new plugs and a simple wiring diagram, sometimes you have to source the plugs separately. When I put euro headlights in my 300E, I had to open up the stock wiring plugs for the turn signal and headlight and switch a few things around. For example, now there are no longer parking lights in the front turn signals (much cleaner look at night IMO).
It is all very straight forward and plug&play for the most part.

You can order the new plug connectors part number 0115455028. Two plugs will run you about 4 bucks and 10 shipping. I got mine from mercedes parts center online. Then have a look at http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W126EuroLights for the wiring for the new plugs. You merely pull the back off of the old plugs and take the wires out and reinstall them in a different order for the new lights. Brown is ground and if that wiring diagram doesn't help you can figure out the low beam pole and the high beam pole by using a multimeter. For the parking lights you can just use the old two pole plugs which should just thread into the new lights.

I'm very fond of the DEPO euro lights. I think they are great quality and have the best OE appearance. If you buy OE they will simply fade again over time as they are plastic. The DEPO's are glass.

I agree. In the aftermarket world they are probably at the top of the heap. Besides a new set of BOSCH euro are priced crazy.

Here is a set...Keep searching though as you may find them a tad cheaper although under $200 is about right.
Ignore the car shown on it...Kind of a bad photo. The lights are very clean. I have the w124 version on both of my cars and they look great. The wagon has had them for 2 years now...20k miles and they still look brand new.

Nope. You should also get better visibility.

I got the bi-xenon with clear cornerlights on ebay for $389. They're great- plug and play. I did have to get new corner bulbs because of the differant pins. But they are cheap. They turned out to be Depots. Calif. Highway patrol told me to go ahead with them because they said these are legal.
