Alternator without voltage regulator?

I was at the junkyard pulling a new alternator for my 93 190E. I was pulling this out of a 93 300E with an M104 motor and noticed that it does not have a voltage regulator on it:

Is the VR somewhere inside the black plastic? Or does this type of alternator not have one altogether? Would you guys still use this unit or should I find another one?

While you're doing an alternator job, you should upgrade to a larger amp alternator.

Yup. If the yard has any..check mid/late V8 S-Classes or E-classes. They would have the 143amp unit. SUV's would have the 150A unit.

That looks like an AL0161X, 90 amp unit.
