97 E320 stall... need help...

My 17 yr old son hit a Bambi and wiped out his '78 300D.....So he now has a 97E320 (a little bit better acceleration than the 300D).

When the engine is cold it starts, surges and stalls like someone tuned off the ignition. It will keep doing this until up to temp (60-80C) and then run smooth for the most part but has stalled a few times at temp while idling. smooth acceleration and lots of power.

- No codes
- Have installed a new Crank Position Sensor
- cleaned MAF
- found a blockage in EGR vacuum line and fixed
- Cleaned throttle motor interior (it has been replaced before I got the car)
- New batteries in key fob

Could a malfunctioning coolant temp sensor cause this problem? Would like to diagnose if possible before throwing money at it.
