Please help! Urgent guidance needed :( M103 to M102 Manual Transmission Swap

Hello everyone,

Really need some help here. Have a 1990 M103 260E Sportline stock 4 speed manual that I'm looking at swapping with a 5 speed manual box from a 190e M102 5 speed.

The torque converter in the auto box has busted & i was already having problems with the transmission so I figured i'd try manual swap for the benefit of everything.

I'm just in dire help of WHAT EXACTLY DO I NEED?

I understand the bellhousing is the same, but what else? I know i need pedals shifter etc.

What about driveshaft? clutch & flywheel is getting me confused? and anything else??

Please assist me if you can,

Any help is much appreciated, thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I've always thought M102 manuals were not compatible with M103....I am sure others will give input also.

M111, M102, M103, M104, OM601, OM602, OM603, OM604, OM605, and OM606 all share a bellhousing pattern.

Your post indicates you want to swap the manual 4 speed for the manual five speed. Then why put in the junk line about an automatic/torque converter. Anyway. do you have/own the 190E with the five speed. If you own it and haven't lost or sold the parts just switch it over. It should swap over with really no problem except the drive line length might have to be modified. Sometimes the transmission cross member or rear transmission mount has to be changed. So just get at it, it something doesn't fit, let us know. I would recommend that you keep the factory clutch with each transmission.

My apologies, made the post late before i went to bed. It is a 4 speed auto.
I can get everything from a m102 Donor 190e pretty much

Well I think it can be done without much difficulty so long as you can do it with the 190E at your side. It is just a case of pulling every part you need from the 190E to the 300E. To do the job right that would include switching the differental and the speedometer as they are matched. If you don't switch differentials, don't switch the speedometer. Drive shaft length might have to modified, transmission mounts ect. are probably different also. You should install a new pilot bearing and throwout bearing and to do the job really right resurface the pressure plate and put in a new disc, (some of the 190's are pretty expensive). Your master cylinder will most probably work - it has a tit on the back corner that will have to be opened up to let the fluid pass. Change over the whole pedal box and change over the whole shifter assembly. Often shift levers must be changed in length - however if both engines sit the same distance away from the firewall then I would think the shift rods will be correct length. THE BIG THING! Hold on to the parts car until you are all finished.
