1997 E 420 transmission problems

I have a 1997 E 420. I started having problems with I am guessing the transmission. It will go into gear and drive but once I stop it act like it doesn't want to go. I would turn it off let it sit for a mint then start back up and it will drive again. I had the gear shifter changed drove it from the shop it went into gear changing out just fine then once i got it home and got ready to drive it again the same problem... won't move. I don't even feel the car shifting when I put it into drive or into reverse. I don't want to buy another transmission if it really doesn't need one. I don't know where to start.

For starters check that the transmission fluid level is correct. If so, then I would change the transmission fluid & filter if it hasn't been changed in the last 30,000 miles.
